The Old John Peel Inn in South Lakeland

We had just drinks on Saturday night i had to ask for table to be cleaned the older bar man came out with a cloth that was black and smelled of ashtrys and he cleaned the table with it he also served a blue wkd to a 12 year old girl without asking who it was for

Pleasantly surprised... you know I've lived in Windermere for 30 years and had never been to this pub. I guess I'd been put off by the outside appearance. However if your after a traditional old boozer this could be the place for you... the barman was really friendly and he could pour a good Guinness. Dogs are welcomed to.

Only went in here for a pint sadly. Excellent well kept beer which was amazing given the appalling standard of ale in Bowness. The barman was busy cleaning tidying and generally being impressive. Shame we'd already eaten and didn't go here first.

Well, the sign said home cooked food, so we ordered a Sunday lunch. What I failed to realise is their version of home cooked food is that of a single man, sitting in a darkened bedsit with a meal for one on a dusty table, contemplating where it all went wrong, and why did he not marry that girl he was so fond of some years ago, as he slowly moves the sliver of beef that has been cut with a laser around the plate building up the will to actually taste what has been labelled on the packet as roast beef. He sips on a single glass of pinot and comes to the conclusion he should never have left his mum and dad. He reaches for his mobile, but no service, much like this pub!

Probably the cheapest pint in windermere ok service and nice relaxing bar would definitely go back there also do food but don't start serving till 3.30.

Traditional inn food not bad. Don't have a great selection of local beers but the Lancaster Blonde is good.

If you like wine bar, modern type pubs, then this ones not for you. But if you like propper pubs with character then you'll enjoy a few pints in here - the Hawks Head beer was spot on. Good pub grub too, sirloin and steak & ale pie cooked to perfection. Chips and veg fine but have had better. Worth a visit.

This was not the best eating pub & had to send the mxd grill back as 4 items of meat tastes off . We was offered an alternative , in the end we got a full refund . Shame as the home cooked pie was delicious . An old fashioned pub . Not very busy .

Proper local real ales and wholesome simple food. Food was piping hot and well cooked, staff very friendly and helpful. Traditional Ole styled pub with no frills attached.
