Visited this restaurant last Sunday evening not knowing what to expect. What a delight it was. Oldie worldly with slightly sloping floors on the first floor and laid out in basic furniture. The menu was excellent and everyone enjoyed their choice of four different dishes. Staff were excellent, friendly and professional. The place is steeped in history and the building dates back to the late 16th century. A beautiful oak wall was revealed under plasterboard in recent renovations and stands proudly on the ground floor. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Ambleside. Excellent experience. Thank you staff.

Absolutely delicious meal in an historic building in Ambleside. Freshly cooked, great service. The lamb was melt in the mouth tender and cooked to perfection.

Went for a roast dinner today. 2 had lamb, 2 had beef and everyone said it was one of the nicest roasts we've ever had. Would highly recommend and would love to return if in the area.

We popped into the priest without a reservation and the staff were very friendly and welcoming, even fitting us in as long as we could give the table back by 8pm which was plenty of time as the service was really speedy. The food was lovely - the baked Camembert starter is really good and the slow cooked lamb shank was delicious.

Really friendly staff! I had the olives and feta for starter and it was enormous, enough to share between two, which my husband was happy to oblige. My main course was the Lamb, it was the best I've had, so much meat, tender and tasty; the vegetables were perfectly cooked with a lovely crunch. My only disappointment was I didn't have room for dessert! Highly recommend.

Went with low expectations as this was the 3rd place we called to try to get a booking for 8 on a busy Saturday night in Ambleside. Honestly couldn’t have been more pleased with how the evening went, food was excellent quality, service was attentive and the restaurant was a lovely surprise. Glad we ended up there.

The food was amazing, we had steak and it was cooked to perfection. The front of house staff were really professional, friendly and helpful. The only reason I have given four star is because the kitchen staff's language left something to be desired with an open door kitchen. We voiced our concerns to the Front of house staff so hopefully this will stop. We were not the only people to voice our concerns either. Everything else was perfect though.

After a hike up and around Loughrigg Fell The Priest Hole was everything we could have wished for. Cold beer, lovely, filling, tasty comfort food and no hassle, friendly service.Excellent with dogs too (but they're outdoors only)

We pre booked the table for 2 adults and 2 children for Monday late afternoon. I am glad we did that because the place was busy and fully booked. The food was amazing with generous portions of meat. Best grilled chicken salad I have had!. My daughter wanted some pasta and kids menu didn't have any but the staff offered her pasta with no problems, so kind 😊The service was exceptional and very friendly. We will definitely be back next year 👍

Came here after a day long hike in Ambleside. The food was good, both had fish for main and fish cake for starter. The staff were friendly.
