Stayed for the dinner bed and breakfast deal. Nice location, great room and the staff/service were excellent. The food however was a tad disappointing. Food presentation was nice and the two starters , the Scotch Egg and the Scallops with pork cheeks, were fantastic. It was a shame it ended there. The chicken breast main was way way over cooked and bone dry. The shin beef pie was not seasoned and tasteless. Unfortunately breakfast followed suit in the morning. Great visuals but the bacon, was overcooked and hard. The sausages, hash brown ,eggs and black pudding were stone cold. However the nuclear cooked baked beans that removed the skin from your lips more than made up for the cold food. Overall it may have been a bad day in the kitchen but there are better places to stay for that type of money.

Enjoyed two nights here this week and although there was a problem that the restaurant had to close due to a missed Calor gas delivery because of the energy crisis and war in Ukraine (no fault of The Wild Boar) We had booked to eat there that evening, couldn't so they paid for taxis to take us to and from an alternative restaurant. A fantastic continental breakfast was provided and a refund of the breakfast cost was given (didn't want it but the manager insisted) The manager and the staff were fantastic and nothing was too much trouble for them. The bar was lovely with a roaring log fire and great beer from their own brewery. I will definitely return!

Just back from a lovely two night stay. Lovely hotel, bedrooms very nice, lovely bathroom with fab shower, nice touch of shower Gel, shampoo, body lotion. The tea tray was fab, lots of different teas, normal and Herbal, also nice selection of coffees. Packets of biscuits too. Very welcoming staff, from the start at reception to the guys and girls behind the bar, waitress service fab. Nice lounge area with fire to sit, also a lovely restaurant. Good selection of breakfasts, we ate in the hotel for dinner and the meals were very tasty. Would definitely return as everything we wanted, oh and fab walks too.

We visited for the alternative afternoon tea so didn't stay in any of the rooms. The bar is dog-friendly, but please let them know when you're booking if you're bringing a dog. The alternative afternoon tea was tasty and well made. The service was friendly and helpful. The hotel is very much in the traditional Lake District Inn mould so think more cosy and comfortable pub than overwhelming luxury.

Booked a two night stay for my partners birthday. The room was a luxury one and safe to say it was absolutely stunning. The rooms are all individually designed so no two rooms are the same. The location is of course beautiful. We had a walk around the 72 acres and it was just awe inspiring and calming. The food was outstanding, from the breakfasts to the dinners. The bar area is comfy and cosy with its own fire . Definitely recommend this place to anyone, and its only a ten minute drive to windermere too

Wow... What a treat this place is. We wereGiven an alternative afternoon tea for a wedding present. Thoroughly recommended. Staff very helpful, restaurant very clean and comfortable chairs. A great selection of beers, 3rds, included in price and wife had prosecco. For a great dining experience I thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

Had a super Christmas break at the Wild Boar. Couldn't have asked for better. The staff are super friendly and efficient. Food superb. The Christmas atmosphere wonderfully created with lots to do and even presents and bucks fizz from Santa on Christmas Day.

We went to the Wild Boar with my elderly mother for a special Christmas lunch this year - having seen her only for a few days in the last 2 years due to Covid restrictions.I can honestly say it was the worst food I have eaten in years and the worst dining experience I have endured for quite some time. The food was simply atrocious. It was the worst Christmas lunch I have ever eaten! The boiled vegetables were reminiscent of school lunch. The plates were cold. The waiter had spilled the gravy over the edge of the each plate and didn’t even apologise! The quality of the ingredients was very poor. The Christmas pud was cold as was the brandy sauce - which was basically custard with a dash of brandy in it. My mum and fiancée ordered the cheesecake - when it arrived it was a chocolate mouse in a chocolate cup !The tea and coffee was then served in a mug - it was like being in a transport cafeteria, not an acclaimed top notch hotel restaurant. The waiting staff were pretty unhelpful and clearly very inexperienced. All in all an awful dining experience - all for the not very cheap price of £100 per head !To conclude. I would not recommend the Wild Boar to anyone. Don’t wast your time and money, you can eat better at home.

Lovely place to stay, great food, friendly accommodating staff . A very warm welcome, beautiful rooms and real fires in the bar and lounge . Wanted for nothing during our stay.Truely dog friendly, with beds, bowls, towels and treats provided for your furry friends.Hose pipe to wash your dog and even wellies available to borrow for muddy walks with your pooch . Absolutely everything thought of even a doggy menu of fresh food for pampered pooches!!Loved, loved, loved it !!!
