Avoid if you have hungry children. The Bar staff were grumpy and unhelpful. The waitress was friendly which took the edge off a little. The Adult food was pleasant, but the kids food potions were a joke. The children's burgers were basically slider sized, not child sized, so we had to share our adult food with them (including our 6 year old). In the end we all left hungry and not impressed.Reviews seem to be positive so maybe we caught it on an off day?

The Inn welcomed us with cosiness and wood crackling in the fireplace. It's full of charm and character and seems to be proud of its' history, considering the presence of old times pictures on the walls and some details in the interior. The room was small, but comfortable, the bathroom was modern and clean. The room was a tad too hot for my liking, but it has got resolved easily, by opening the window. The Inn being on the road did not put us off, it's really quiet in the night and the original windows have been reinforced with modern second glazing.Good choice on the breakfast menu, including vegan option.I would like to mention the member of the staff, the young guy who met and checked us in on arrival on Friday May 6th, served us during the breakfast and checked us out. He's been very polite and professional, demonstrating excellent example of hospitality and customer service. He deserves highest commendation!

Excellent place to stay if you are lucky to find vacancies. Probably better to find vacancies through their website as opposed to third party websites such as booking.com, etc. They do not advertise in the summer via these websites so you won't find vacant rooms via them. The place itself is great, everything you need is there, including food, drinks, etc. Rooms are great and a well deserved high 4 ✨. Can't give it a 5 🌟 as these are reserved for the top places in the country. Service is great and location is about 25 minutes walk to Grasmere. Highly recommended

We stayed here for 3 nights as it's centrally located to visit all the main areas of the lake District. The pub itself is a really nice old place full of charm and character, the staff are really friendly and helpful, and the food is excellent. There's a decent sized car park which always had plenty of space so no problems there. The room we stayed in was quite small but was clean and had a comfortable bed, but the rooms at the front are extremely close to a road which at times is busy with traffic and can be quite noisy, although of a night time traffic does die off to vertually nothing so it didn't interfere with us sleeping. Overall we enjoyed our time at the Travellers Rest and would definitely come back.

After looking at the good reviews online for this place me and a few friends thought we'd give it a go on our journey home from Keswick. All was well as we entered and ate at the time we had booked for. When it came to the food quality, it just wasn't how the reviews made out unfortunately.. some meats we had were okay, others such as the beef was like leather. It was not the beef you have on a Sunday roast. This wasn't even questioned when left when plates were collected. Also the veg tasted very similar to the veg steam bags you collect at the super market, very distinct taste..The sticky toffee pudding dessert gained some points back, however a hair was found in one.The soft drinks were nice and service was okay. The toilets reminded us of a prison so not the most pleasant..Overall it was very 'ok' and that is all.

Excellent rooms - modern, stylish decor.Service was friendly and quick, always people around to help.Location is perfect. Several fells are easy to reach just by stepping out of the door. The closest are Stone Arthur, Helm Crag, and Seat Sandal, and their respective neighbours.

Must have driven past it 500 times, but dropped in with hungry mates and the lovely staff were able to fit us in next to the fire. Food was home-cooked style rather than posh and it was better for it, as we had 3 very tasty starters and 3 excellent mains. Good portion sizes and couldn't fit in a dessert (I got jealous when I saw the creme brule, so I will definitely be going back).

We stumbled across this pub towards the end of our walk and were pleasantly surprised at quality of the food! The food was very well cooked and incredibly good quality.I had the chicken livers and my partner had the fish & chips - they were really good!Would definitely recommend this place for a good quality bite to eat after a long walk!
