White Lion Hotel Restaurant in South Lakeland

V nice and spacious with lots of natural light. Chips were delicious. Rob also took great care of us; he was v genial. Thanks!

My wife and I visit Ambleside every year for an overnight anniversary treat.Our first port of call is the White Lion for drinks and a bite to eat.I'm guessing the management has changed since we last visited.The pub was quiet as it was just after noon.I went to order some sandwiches off the lite bites menu.....no sandwiches or wraps.OK, no probs, pulled pork nachos x 2 then.No sooner had I got back to the table, the nachos arrived, brilliant!Only the pulled pork was cold on the inside, warm outside, cheese part melted, part cold.No big deal, we asked the manager if we could have them heated up.Off he went, one minute later, the nachos returned....no different, what had they done with them in a minute.....The bar man with loads of tatoos, possibly Italian had zero customer skills but a giant attitude.It takes a lot to trigger me but it's a service business, were giving them our money to look after us, so we'll go again and tell others.Big let down!

We visited the pub for my 50th Birthday, I’d chosen this pub as it had been a favourite of mine for previous visits. We’d booked for 7.00pm, you’d think you’d easily get three courses in before things became quiet and the staff gave up offering a decent customer service!We managed two courses, food wasn’t great but was edible. By 8.40pm though we hadn’t had our dinner plates cleared away and the pub was fast emptying with people being told that there was no more food being served after 8.00pm. The Italian (I presume from the accent) waiter made little attempt to offer decent customer service, saw our dinner plates were finished for at least 40 minutes but continued to serve other tables. He wasn’t busy if that is an excuse offered up, he just made no effort to service all tables!!! It got pretty embarrassing that the pub was virtually empty yet this guy still wouldn’t clear our plates away. Finally he did but did not offer dessert, I presume it was past his bedtime and we were holding him up! We decided to just give up, pay the bill and leave, we’d had enough by then. As we left my partner decided to complain to the duty manager, we were offered a complimentary drink as apologies which we declined, we’d had enough by then! The Italian waiter hovered around listening to all of this, maybe he should have had the decency to apologise, but he obviously didn’t care less!!! You’ve lost two customers guys, never again!!!!

We stayed in ambleside for 2 nights from the 1.1.22 and reserved a table for 2 nights in the white lion,absolutely shocking,firstly it wasn't the staff who were serving us fault,we sat down they took our drinks order we looked at the menu and decided on a steak to be told there were no sreaks,infact there was hardly anything on the menu! Absolute terrible,the lady serving us was couldn't apologise enough! Like we said to her its not your fault but at least the manager could have come and explained why this had happened and why no one told us as soon as we walked in,it wasn't the nicest what we eventually choose,so we cancelled the meal for the next day and won't be going back to the white lion anytime soon when were back in Ambleside ...

Stayed for two nights, was able to park in the patrons car park, room was excellent, food was very good, staff were very accommodating and friendly, couldn't recommend more. Pub is very popular and busy,, this shows people like it too!

Excellent service from Willow this evening, very friendly and fast service. She needs a pay rise after putting up with us lot tonight. So tolerable and lovely. Lovely atmosphere and and lovely food. Highly recommend to anyone visiting the area. Amazing front of house, will definitely return I'm future!

Ordered hunters chicken and steak pie. The small chicken breast ( if you can see it on my plate) was not cooked and steak pie was one of the worse we have had. Got refund for chicken fillet not eaten. Won't buy a meal again there.

Stayed here for two nights on our way to Scotland. Our room was spacious, clean, well-equipped and two floors above the bar so it was very quiet.Breakfast was simple and delicious, bar had a good atmosphere and is clearly popular with the locals.Highly recommended, and whatever you do, take a walk to the waterfalls, they are epic when it has been raining this much...

Good food. The ordering at the table process neither reduces time or contact with staff members. Totally useless and a negative with all customers near us.

Thursday 17th, came out to explore, see what there was too offer, outside was extremely busy, but inside was empty and peaceful.. The food was that nice, we returned Sunday 20th and still didn't disappoint.Didn't help it was nice and quiet, reason to this, is due to the whole pandemic.. so everything being done by app or it's people failing to turn up to there allocated bookings. Not many people are technical so it would be kind of difficult for those that aren't custom to using app similar weatherspoons..  The food we ordered was how we asked for. Nothing went wrong nor was it cold. The staff who served our food where excellent, had a sense of humour, polite and friendly along with consistency. Yeah hopefully when lockdown has eased more, will be looking at booking a room there, in the right location for whats within the area.The app in itself will tell you whats available and what isn't, regarding both food and drinks. Explains everything with the food and options become available for additionals or substitutes.All very satisfied from everyone in the party.
