Booked though booking.com. and upgraded to the 'Queens suite' for a sea view and a bath. Told that room wasn't available and we would have a 'free upgrade'. The free upgrade had no bath and although you could see the sea it was also overlooking the bins, that the chef could frequently be seen at and at one point, another staff member jumping in.In the evening things get a bit weird, Friday night started off busy, but after a nice meal in the restaurant, the bar was empty, presumably because they call last orders at 9:30, which seems bizarre. After being shown the secret way in, were allowed to spend the evening in the Albion down the road instead. Which, for drinks, was significantly cheaper.Room was tired looking, place is generally a bit worse for wear.Wife asked me not to complain as we'd heard the owner complaining about other guests at breakfast time (you only get 8-9am for breakfast) and some were late at 8:45! Not only that, but he'd already told us they were fully booked, so we wouldn't have been able to swap rooms anyway, and, besides getting ripped off, we managed to have a nice few days away. Was told on departure not to book again through booking.com.Unless the management change, we really won't be.If you're the new owner and you've reduced the prices, tidied it up and opened the bar till normal times, let us know, because the location is lovely, would be happy to revisit, see what the rooms with the actual baths in are like and edit the review... But only under new ownership.

Good location in Arnside. Nice food and dining room. The bedroom was clean but dated and the bed - awful! There was no lift and two flights of stairs along corridors that also needed freshening up.

Almost everything was at best unpleasant and at worst just unacceptable. Arnside however is beautiful. We ended up leaving at 7:30 am after the chef shouted at us for not pre ordering breakfast and refused to serve us… “you can’t just walk in here and expect breakfast” was his opening line when we asked if we could have breakfast and it just go worse from there. The whole interact was unnecessarily argumentative and unpleasant. We also discovered we were locked into the building when we tried to go to watch the sunrise! something that we’re we not made aware of at check in.We then realised that if we’d not got back to the pub before closing we’d have been locked out for the night… again something we were not told. The room was tired, too hot and there we dried up tissues stuffed behind the bedside table.Save your self the bother and stay elsewhere.

Average beer selection. Very difficult to get a table for food unless you're staying at the hotel. Modern decor and big screens for sport if that's your thing. Much prefer the Albion.

Stayed 2 nights what a great find.Staff were excellent, rooms in the annex at the top of the car park were spacious & clean.Great selection of beers and the food was top notch. Will certainly be returning for another stay.

This pub looked nice, with an outside area, with 2 two year olds just what we were looking for, when I went inside to order I was told, by a lady, quite abruptly, we do not serve food outside at this time of year! When I went back into order drinks I explained to her much nicer, male colleague that we had 2 noisy and possibly messy babies with us and didn't want to disturb other diners. The drinks were nice but very expensive we won't go back.

Fantastic place to stay, eat and visit. I stayed en route to Scotland for two nights and found the accommodation to be clean and have everything I could need. The food was also fantastic, and I must say the roast a was 10/10. The bathroom in the pub had little extras like hair spray and wipes etc which I thought was a nice added touch.

We called on a visit to Arnside yesterday and looking for a good lunch, we were not disappointed. The welcome was warm, unfortunately the chef was unwell, so they provided a limited menu. We had a sandwich platter, containing a variety of sandwiches, crisps, pork pie, side salad and a bowl of chips. Accompanied by piping hot red pepper soup, a large latte and a fruit tea, all wonderful and only just over £20.00 for the both of us. Wonderful staff, great food well done to the team who were doing a great job!

Super place. Beautiful setting. Would definitely recommend. We were in a downstairs annex room, which was perfect for a family of three. The rooms were clean and spacious and staff were very helpful. The car park is fairly small, but there is also free parking on the road outside.Additionally the evening meal was reasonable.Breakfast was OK, but the continental breakfast was limited. This is the part I normally enjoy the most. The self service toaster wasn't very good and was slow and hard to use. My husband said the first morning breakfast was very greasy and not that nice, whereas the second breakfast was lovely. I presume it depends on the chef!

The room was OK, but lacked a pair of comfy chairs to sit in. Apparently, you're only supposed to sleep or sit on the bed. Mind you, the one tiny window meant that there was nothing to see from the room, apart from the car park and the pub; this room is in a separate block, a converted barn, at the top of the car park. The hotel advertises wonderful views as there are one or two suites in the main building overlooking the estuary. But most rooms don't have this wonderful view, so don't count on it. Perhaps to make up for the broken promises about stupendous views, a pair of broken binoculars is provided, so that you can imagine what it might have been like to see clear across to the other side of the estuary... A poor apology, indeed! The room was superficially cleaned, but there were huge cobwebs at eye level behind the wall-mounted TV and in the cupboard on the wall that blew open when the wind gusted. The cupboard contained the main fuses and power switch and should not even be accessible to guests. But the builders had neglected to fit a lock. They'd cut a hole for the lock, and attached a keyhole, but no lock. Odd that the staff or owner had never noticed this, or thought that it needed attention. We also missed having a shaving socket for charging the toothbrush. Awkward to have to go and buy one.The bar was not as welcoming as other pubs in the town, nowhere comfortable to sit, very bright lights, dominated by loud men getting drunk. Not a nice place for a drink. On the positive side, we were made to feel very welcome. The staff soon became like old friends and were easy to get along with. Service was excellent every point. Dinner and breakfast in the restaurant were excellent with great chefs and servers. The room was mostly well appointed, other than the points noted above. In summary, as is often the case, excellent staff doing a great job let down by distracted owners! These staff need the support and resources to do the place proud. And the extension building needs better windows and furniture.
