The Eccleston Arms Bar & Grill in St. Helens

Food took over an hour to arrive! The quality was OK but not great considering the prices were on the high side.The room was nicely decorated but not that clean, also a security light outside the window was on all night making the room hard to sleep in. - recommend getting some blackout curtains!Breakfast was terrible, sausages undercooked the scrambled eggs had clearly been microwaved. Better Breakfast from weatherspoons which says it all.

We always loved going here for food and drinks before lockdown and couldn't fault the place. It was always 5 stars.Since reopening fully after lockdown the menu has been really stripped down and is quite limited, epecially for vegetarians as there was only 1 option for mains last time we went.Hopefully the menu will return to its former version in the future and I will be able to upgrade it back to 5 stars.

No salads after 4pmNo hake on the night, not told until orderingOne meal not as ordered, ordered spaghetti without Bolognese sauce for our great granddaughter, served tagliatelle with Bolognese sauce£16 burger had no flavour or seasoning, almost pink insideChicken Supreme served in brown gravy instead of cream sauce.Service slow and courses not served together.This place was really good the time before and served the community during lockdown, what happened?

Really disappointing. Long wait for starters and entrées. Tempura cauliflower (pictured) was very heavy battered, tasted frozen, didn't resemble tempura at all. I think the rice was boil in the bag, low quality. The Katsu sauce was peculiar- runny, more like a sweet & sour. The chorizo starter with honey & red wine jus was served in a small casserole dish swimming in the jus. Chicken burger dry, overcooked.Besides the food, the service was abysmal. I didn't eat the cauliflower dish and told the serving staff, they did nothing. No response at all, didn't apologise, didn't offer a different dish or to make a new one - then charged me for the meal I couldn't eat. Had to chase down serving staff a number of times for drinks, the bill etc.We won't be returning. One of the worst restaurants I've ever been to.

What an absolutely fantastic,warm,clean and welcoming place.I had the pleasure of staying 2 nights on my own. I felt safe and looked after by all the staff I met. The wolly I am left her phone in the taxi. All the staff from night time shift into morning shift, helped me to retrieve my phone back 🙃Oh and the food 😋 one word Yummy!Will definitely be booking again when I visit the area again.

Place is decorated well, looks modern and clean. Staff are friendly. We waited a good few minutes to be noticed to be seated, but to be fair we hadn't booked and they squeezed us in. I had the chilli which was very tasty and my partner had the salt and pepper chicken which was quite overcooked. Its pricey for pub food, but is presented well. We waited a good 20 minutes for our food after ordering, it was fully booked, but didn't seem overly busy. Servers were all really polite and friendly. Overall it had some good points and some not so good points. We personally wouldn't rush back.

Very proffessional attentive staff, lovely food at a great price. Warm atmosphere in a spotless beautiful dining area. Staff made our night even better than we expected. I visited family and travelled from Bristol area, couldnt find anywhere as special for the price, in gloucestershire or Sommerset.As a vegetarian i expect a lot from the food and cleanliness, was not dissapointed Cant wait to book again.
