Roman Lakes Leisure Park in Stockport

Can't review the lakes as we had to turn back as it was closed, but seriously unless you have an off road car, do not try driving here, park in Marple and walk the extra mile instead. I read some of the reviews over the potholes and expected a tarmac road with some potholes, instead I found completely undriveable terrain with endless amounts of loose rocks and holes going up and down hill. Was thankful in the end to get out without any burst tires! Will be returning on foot next time.

I love it at The Roman lakes. A lovely walk around the lakes from Arkwright Road in Marple, coming out at Strines Road. There is a big lake for fishing and there is a kiosk that sells hot drinks and snacks. The cafe does takeaways or you can eat in. The scenery is beautiful for wedding venues also.

Held our wedding at the Roman Lakes a couple of weeks ago and it was fantastic. The guests loved the relaxed feel of the place.We went back today as they were holding an "Open Day". They're still not fully open since covid but will be holding more events to invite the public back in to the park.Had a lovely walk round today. Had a brew and some food and fed the ducks!

Lovely, tranquil place in the Goyt Valley, midway between Marple and Strines. The lake is pleasant to walk round, plenty of waterfowl to see there too. There is a nice cafe conveniently positioned to sell their wares. Highly recommended.

We found this place by complete accident and it's such a lovely place as well.Great views of the viaduct where trains regularly pass, a lovely set of lakes (which given the name of the area is fairly obvious) a quaint café and a small children's play area.You can walk around the lakes but be aware it will be very boggy if it's been raining within the last few days ahead of your visit.The ducks are friendly and will happily eat out of your hand if that's your thing.My 3* review is due to the potential this place has to build on. For example the café doesn't take card payments, something which is essential nowadays and resulted in us not spending more money there as we had no cash and there wasn't a cash point locally.Also, the children's play area is very small - but good nonetheless - consisting of a slide, bridge and climbing accessories. No swings or the sort of standard equipment associated with a children's play area.There also needs to be a more substantial walkway for people wanting to have a trapse around whilst visiting.Car park is massive and free. Staff were friendly too, those I interacted with and it appears it's a great little wedding venue.The road down there is off-road and you'll likely think you've gone the wrong way, but if you do ever make it, it's really lovely.

Nice place to stop by and slow down, we had some takeaway snacks from the tearooms which were nice (the egg and bacon roll was particularly appreciated in the cold!)The road to get here is a little bumpy but there is a car park. You can access the mill excavation area and garden house nearby from here.

A beautiful place to visit with lovely vistas. There's great scenery and wildlife tottering around. But it's not the easiest place to get to with access being down a really bad road (sure the Romans wouldn't have put up with this!). Once there, it is nice but not actually that much to do with kids. Take your sat nav directions with a pinch of salt!

Quiet, beautiful, hidden gem. Free parking, lovely cafe area. CASH ONLY. Interesting walks. Quaint little village on the way in, then a very bumpy, dusty track, not too bad to navigate just need to be patient.

Great place to visit. Sit and watch the water birds or have a walk down by the river. Nice cafe by the lake, and a kiosk from which to get snacks. Can get quite busy on warm summer days, but not too bad if you get there earlier in the day.

Lovely walks in picturesque surroundings, plenty of birds including geese, swans and even a line peacock. Nice little cafe on site. Parking can be difficult in busy periods
