Hare and Hounds, Lowton in Wigan

From start to finish my whole experience was amazing. Food was good, the service and attitude from the staff was perfect. Tasha who was working behind the bar couldn’t do enough for all the customers she is a very bubbly member of staff and that is what you need in the hospitality sector.

We visited the Hare and Hounds specifically to use a voucher that Sizzling Pubs sent us. On this occasion, they got things very wrong.We ordered two steak meals and waited quite a while for them to arrive. Fair enough as it was busy. When they arrived, nothing was sizzling; the onions were quite cold and swimming in fat. It took 3 napkins to soak it all up! One steak was good, but the other was quite rare despite being requested as medium.It was cooked for a bit longer, and when it reappeared, it was cooked much better but turned out to be chewy with lots of grissle through it! While it was being cooked some more the sweet potato fries were consumed. When the steak returned, another portion of fries were ordered to accompany it.They didn't make an appearance in the time it took to eat the edible bits of the steak! When asked where they were, I was told that there were lots of orders in front of them, so we cancelled. By this point, we'd had enough so asked for the bill, paid, and left.The staff we spoke to were helpful and polite but were let down by poor food, bad cooking, and disorganisation. We won't be returning.

When this reopened after lockdown, we used to visit regularly. The staff were friendly, the service was quick and the food was always tasty. But something’s happened since then, change of manager maybe, and after a couple of dodgy visits we decided to give it one last try yesterday, as it is local to where we live. Never again. We asked when we arrived how long the wait for food would be (it wasn’t busy) and were told “not long”. An hour later our meals arrived. Husband ordered chilli and rice and it was literally inedible. I don’t know how long they’d kept the rice or if it had been reheated too often, but it was absolutely rock hard and beyond chewing. Surely it’s not hard to serve rice that’s soft and fluffy! My chicken skewers were rubbery and tasteless and certainly not worth the price.If anyone had bothered to ask how our meals were, we would have told them at the time, but the staff seem to have lost all the customer care they used to show.It’s a shame because it used to be a nice little pub and a lot of money has been spent on the refurbishment. But unless they change the attitude of the staff and hire people who know how to cook food, they’ll have wasted their investment.

Me and my partner ordered some roast dinners and they we absolutely disgusting! The worst roast dinner we have ever had! Left most of it. Chicken was so dry and into chewable…like cardboard. Mash was packet/microwave mash and chewy around the edges, veg was like rubber, roast potatoes were also from a packet and very dry. Yorkshire pudding chewy. Gravy thick and lumpy. Honestly we couldn’t eat it. How they can serve food like that is beyond me!! Will not be returning and I do not recommend the roast dinners at all! Very appalling. Wouldn’t even feed my dog that shambles of a roast dinner!!

Visited here as a group of four and we all ordered the chicken and rib sizzling platter. All four meals arrived with chicken and a section of ribs placed on a large mound of uncooked onions. The platter was so cold you could pick it up with your hands. We made staff aware of the issue and they agreed that the food was not acceptable and offered us a drink as a good will gesture. What was more frustrating is staff informed us that they had made the (so called chef) aware of our complaint, for us to then witness someone else return food with the same issue. Management need to have a word with their chef as this was clearly a staff member who could not be bothered to take the time to heat the platter and cook the onions. Furthermore he thinks it’s acceptable to continue to send this quality of food out to other customers after the issue had been raised. It would appear he has no passion for his job and no respect for the manager to put the reputation of this pub at risk. Personally I would not eat here again.

Lovely food. Staff are very nice. Pubs looks beautiful after refurb (first time since we have been out since lockdown)

Recent visits to the pub have shown that the kitchen is really terrible.The order was completed after two hours - because they lost the order.And if they managed to do it quite quickly, it turns out that the chips are burnt like the rest of the meat. There are no other extras that are in the description-but the price remains unchanged! As before, I recommended this place, so at the moment I think that you will not eat well here anymore!

There was a bit of a wait for food but we was told upon ordering so we didn’t mind. When we received the food it was definitely worth the wait. Sizzling steaks were really nice and cooked perfectly. Cheesy garlic bread was lovely too. Staff were great and was very helpful. Great pub

Food was lovely! We had the 3 starters for £10 the cheese & bacon garlic bread was really nice plus the other 2 then both had fish & chips for £9.50 for the two of them. Service was great too

I'm sorry to say this was our worst dining experience in a long time. Luckily the place wasn't too busy otherwise we'd have waited alot longer than the 65 minutes it took to get our food after ordering. The scampi had chicken nuggets mixed in with it and the chips were clearly from the takeaway next door. It wasn't worth complaining about after waiting so long. Very disappointing.
