The White Lion Restaurant and Bar in Ashford

I cannot fault the service or the food we received on my birthday yesterday! The waitresses were nothing but friendly, accommodating and efficient. The cocktails were to die for, the food was lovely and came out quickly. Now, the star of the show was the deserts, AMAZING!! We will most definitely be returning and bringing more people to show them the lovely atmosphere and service!! Thank you very much to all the waitresses working that evening, it was the perfect way to end my birthday!!

Food and drink were both spot on, let down by the service. If you have dishes not available on the menu you really should advise your customers before they order, there’s nothing worse than going to order a dish and being told it’s not available and neither is your back up option! Also maybe before you put your coffee machine through the wash you could ask your remaining customers if they would like one, was disappointed I couldn’t have an espresso based cocktail without being advised before hand. Considering we was one of three tables dining that evening, we was never asked for another drink we had to ask, only when last orders were called at 9.40 we was asked if we would like a drink. Evening would have been spot on if not for the above.

Not advised when seated that no cocktails available until wanted to order. Not advised no fillet until wanted to order so had to go for more expensive fillet. Starter arrived with main course. Ordered medium steak, middle was rare. Requested truffle fries with 1 meal, arrived with both. Dessert we wanted also not available. Manager deducted £20 from bill but when paid on card machine charged the extra £20.Was left a message couple of days before that live music in bar. Having stayed before in attic room didn’t think would be an issue. Did not expect to be in room above bar so literally sounded like band in our room until 11.40pm.On being shown to room we thought person quickly advised about breakfast and thought they said till 10.30am, arrived downstairs at 10.05am, everything cleared away and told stopped serving. Nothing in room to advise of breakfast times.Did not ask when checking out how are stay had been, was dismissive and unfriendly or clearly knew service/stay for us had been terrible experience.

Cannot praise your staff highly enough. Every request met with a smile and a positive response. My husband enjoyed his real ales especially Dairy, and I loved my cocktails (might have started a habit ). My husband had the full English every morning and I had pancakes. I was so touched this morning by your chefs customer service. I had asked yesterday for pancakes with bacon, I had purchased maple syrup and used it yesterday and to my delight a small jug of syrup was on my plate, she also knew what we drank black tea and black coffee. The food was superb, my favourite being the rib eye steak, the pudding I chose was huge !!! Definitely a 2 spoon dessert, but I battled on valiantly and finally won.The rooms are lovely quirky and very uneven as the floors and walls don’t have a straight line between them.I only have two points of advice to both The White Lion and future guests1 is if you suffer with any disability ask for the first floor, we were on the second floor and my husband struggled.2 Please be aware if you have the starter Buttermilk chicken with spicy mayonnaise that it is very very hot, I am a wimp with spice so perhaps the mayonnaise could be served in a little bowl, so that you can control how much you have.Thank you to all the staff for a lovely stay, I am sure we will return.Phil and Coleen Scott.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch however the service was so slow and the drink that we ordered was not available and only found out after we ordered. Good if you have a lot of patience.

Great welcome and service by Daniel. Good atmosphere in the pub.We did order a non alcoholic cocktail, but were then served a different one. Was nice and not a problem, just good to highlight.The buttermilk chicken is as tasty, however when it arrived it was mostly batter and not chicken. Again, not an issue but worth highlightingGreat butternut squash salad and Korean chicken pizza.

Lovely atmosphere however service started very well but quickly went down hill. The pork collar was meagre and the veg accompanying was below my expectation for the price. The steaks got good reviews from friends. Puddings (when we finally were able to order them) were very good. Drinks were very expensive.

A lovely Christmas dinner in a festive atmosphere. We had a range of dishes between the 5 of us and everything was good. Our waitress Izzy was great too. We have Christmas dinner here as a group every year and it never disappoints 😊

0n the 16th October my daughter had her wedding reception at the hotel and we hired out 11 rooms .I can honestly everything and all the staff where brilliant the food was lovely and nothing was a problem.The rooms were very nice clean and comfortable.Breakfast was excellent and I would recommend the White Lion and Hotel to anyone who was having a celebration 🍾

Lovely location. Well furnished, very tasteful. Attentive staff. All the food was to a great standard, including kids dishes. The kids pizzas were top quality - beyond other pubs kids dishes. Highly recommend.
