Where is The Clifden Arms?

🏠 75 Clifden Rd, Worminghall, Aylesbury HP18 9JR

"Nestled in the picturesque village of Worminghall, The Clifden Arms is a quintessential English country pub, complete with real ales, fine food, low beams and roaring fires. Until about 12 years ago the pub had always been a Free House priding itself on good beer and quality food. It is now under new ownership and is once again trading as a Free House."

Was a very busy Sunday lunch time and the food was lovely however the plates were cold and the waiting time between courses was really slow, 2 hours from start to finish! Just wish they would of had fewer bookings and attended the customers they had more efficiently

Ate at the Cliften on a Sunday - sadly the only thing available was a roast dinner. Cost was not too expensive for what you get (considering similar establishments' pricing). Quality was reasonable but there were some issues with missing items from the plate and overcooked chicken breast. The staff (who are very polite) did make this right for us though in an agreeable manner, and the amazing desserts (pictured) made up for the inconsistent qualities of the mains. Overall, the pub itself and the people who run it make it worth a visit, but it has it's limitations in terms of drinks and food menus. Considering how quaint the place is, I'd advise a visit anyway!

Having eaten at the nearby Caneletto they previous evening which was excellent this was a stark contrast., truly appalling. Despite being almost empty a plate of charcuterie took 40 minutes to arrive. This consisted of a few slice of salami and a couple of gherkins thrown on top. As my dish was placed in front of me my wife was told her meal was not available and she should choose something else. It is worth noting there was a reduced menu of around half a dozen items.

Disappointing Sunday Lunch. All veg undercooked, roast potatoes were burnt on outside and uncooked inside. Meat was very fatty but the gravy was worth the one star. Charged us 10% for service burt we refused to pay. Will not return.

Stayed here for two nights whilst visiting family in the area. Beautiful old thatched pub (think low ceilings, open fires and comfortable chairs). Our room was in the eaves in the converted barn building across the car park and had steep stairs to it so check with staff when you book if you think you might not be able to manage them - there are other rooms on the ground floor. Our room was really nice - a double room done out in white and grey with a bright mustard throw and cushions giving a bright airy feel. Big ensuite shower room with toiletries provided but watch your head when using the loo in this room as the husband bumped his head a couple of times due to the low ceiling- no damage to head or wall but it made him jump 'til he got used to it. Tea and coffee making facilities with (yippee) a small fridge with a jug of fresh milk in it - no UHT pods here. Biscuits also provided.Wonderful full English breakfast both mornings with very good quality sausage and smoked bacon and staff were attentive, friendly and polite and had no problem with my husband's request for a smaller cooked breakfast. There is plenty of choice on the breakfast menu if a full English is not for you.Four of us ate here on the Monday evening and although we were warned it was a restricted menu (this was the week before Christmas so not sure if this was just for this period or if this is usual for a Monday night as they had a deal on - two mains for the price of one) there was still enough choice for everyone. Absolutely delicious - duck for one of us, pie for the other three and loads of freshly cooked vegetables. Managed a scrumptious dessert and went to bed stuffed. We will be booking in here again for sure when we are down this way in the not too distant future.

Sad Decline of Food Standards.I have travelled to visit the Cliften Arms once a month for the last 3 years because the food & atmosphere has always been wonderful! Especially in the year pre lockdown. Sadly my last three visits have been a complete disappointment. Initially I had thought that it was just an 'off day' for the kitchen but as the next two visits were the same I now think there must be a different chef? Tough meat, unseasoned and bland dishes were experienced by most of our party - we even heard the table next to us having the same conversation. As great as the location and staff are, if the food continues to be like this, we won't be back.

Lovely...staying here overnight on our way down to the South Downs. Very cosy, lovely thatched Pub, with Accommodation. Good Pub food, I had the Duck with risotto and red cabbage, really nice.

Absolutely lush! Brilliant service, nothing to much trouble. Beautiful 14th century Flour Mill with amazing decor. Grounds perfect for functions, family outings on sunny afternoons. The wedding marquee was still up from the season and was a pretty fair size. Rooms was well thought out with all you needed, full toiletries, good tea and coffee selection, white fluffy towels. Heating was easy to use, room cosey with little sky light windows. The breakfast was lush, we went for the Vegan Full English and was not disappointed. Wished we were staying longer. Would definitely recommend. Beautiful little pub - what you would expect in the countryside of Oxfordshire.

Lovely quiet village pub near to where we are staying. First time there couldn't fault the food or service, staff very friendly. Can't wait to return.

Unplanned cycling stop as somehow missed the planned one and when we noticed we were right by a sign for The Clifden Arms. Apart for a few funny looks from the patrons enjoying their Sunday lunches and a pint or two, I'm glad we dropped in. Staff were great and coffee was very good. Sadly no cakes but crisps and nuts topped us up for the rest of the ride. Must remember to pop back for food a a pint, looked great.
