Very few menu items available, not told to us when given menus, then still given incorrect meal - something that wasn’t even on the menu appeared?!I didn’t feel as though the staff cared that our meal had been disrupted waiting for the correct order. We had to ask for glasses to be cleared.Mains were brought out when our starters hadn’t been cleared so we had to move plates to make room. This was our first visit to Barton’s mill, we only live down the road and I suggested trying it for my birthday meal, some of my family drove from Chichester and the new forest to be there and it was embarrassingly disappointing.

Excellent venue on a sunny day.Crystal clear water shimmering in the afternoon sunshine. There is an abundance of wildlife here very tranquil.Food is generally of a high standard, if a little pricey..Sadly no cash is excepted at Bartons Mill

We were very disappointed. Our visit was a family reunion after a gap of 25 years and was very important. We were told on arrival that our table was booked for 2 hours only but this was not made known when booking. One of our party ordered a burger, to be told they were off. Other customers, arriving after us, were delivered burgers. The alternative choice was fish cakes which we were told came with chips. We were delivered a mackerel starter. The fish cakes finally arrived when some of our party were almost finished. It was grossly overcooked, the egg uncooked and was inedible. We foolishly did not complain but left with some haste.

Lovely little pub with great surroundings. Called up to find out if they were dog friendly which they are, made my way there for lunch today but was told they were not serving food until 5pm which was annoying. Maybe could have mentioned that when I called up

We had a pleasant afternoon on Mother's Day, staff were very friendly and helpful especially the chap from Limerick. A couple of little things that stopped a 5* rating, mix up with food and forgetting the wine (minor but still essential) however overall it's definitely a nice place to visit.

Turned up for lunch without booking. Staff very welcoming, only a couple of things not available on the menu. Slow cooked beef very tender & tasty. Gammon was delicious. Attentive staff and tasty food. Only a few criticisms, but nothing major. Good value. Thank you.

Checked in last minute as our original accommodation had been cancelled due to storm Eunice. The room is located in a courtyard adjacent to the pub, therefore nice and quiet. The room was nicely kept and in a good condition. The welcome pack had 3 different menus with different prices and also stated that breakfast was served until 10.30am at the weekend. However when we arrived at 9.55am our order was quickly taken as the kitchen was due to shut at 10am. We then had to wait 40 minutes for a poached egg on toast and a fry up. Finally the hot water tap in the room was scaldingly hot without any warning signs

Had high expectations which were quickly proved wrong. Had a booking for 1.15pm. Might as well not given us a menu and actually told us what they DID have. Most of the staff were young and not one of them informed us what wasn't on the menu until we ordered it, then even the alternates wasn't available. Food came out quick and you could tell why, clearly was served from under a food heater. Meat was nice but gravy was cold and potatoes were unbelievably tough to cut through. Kids menu comes with a choice of ice creams with a note on the menu to ask staff of the range. First two members of staff had no idea but luckily a lady member of staff behind the bar knew. Asked them what Quince sorbet was and for told it was probably a type of ice cream. I explained I knew what sorbet was, but was unaware of the flavour. Luckily the woman who previously could tell me the ice cream flavours was able to explain the sorbet. Ordered a pudding, didn't have it again. I also work in hospitality and find the lack of knowledge disappointing

We had a wonderful time for our anniversary. The bedroom was very spacious, clean and comfortable with a gorgeous vaulted ceiling. The food was amazing. I had the best rump steak I've ever had, tender and cooked to perfection. The staff were all very friendly and did their best to make sure we had a great time. We'll definitely be back.
