The Carnarvon Arms Pub in Basingstoke and Deane

Booked here for dinner. I’m in a wheelchair so was told to book a particular table near the toilet, but when I got there I was told to sit anywhere. Came for somebody’s birthday. I asked to have a plate that said ‘happy birthday’, but was told I can buy a cake. Very disappointing, as everywhere we’ve been has done something to help us celebrate. The food was nice, but in light of the problems I had, I wouldn’t go back. Lastly when we went to pay, there was nobody around, so someone from the party had to go find someone.

Popped in for Sunday lunch today.Absolutely the best Sunday lunch tender meat, perfectly roasted vegetables, superb Yorkshire.Staff friendly and quick .Cannot praise enough what a brilliant team. Chef well done.

Overall, the premises are nice. The pub is great, you feel well there. Second, the location is perfect to go to highclere by 30’ walk and the hotel is less than an hour road to nice villages and remarkable places.Nonetheless, the room we got was very very close the highway (i measured 80 decibels in the courtyard !) . It is been long time i was not obliged to use my ´boules quies’ ears as i had to in our room. Should you go to carnarvon arms, ask if they don’t have a quieter room.In conclusion, should the weather been warmer, we would have left before the end (3 days) whatever the cost, unfortunately because the rest was good and it was a gift from our children for my wife’s birthday

Beautiful pub. The staff were very friendly and welcoming towards us and our dog.

Stopped here for dinner one night as we were staying locally. It was so good that we went back for breakfast the next day. Ben and the other staff were lovely and very helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Very good food. Proper linen napkins. Great attention to detail. Lovely ambience very cosy and comfortable.

Ideal place to stay for a trip to Highclere Castle home of Downton Abbey the TV drama literally round the corner,staff worked hard but not enough of them .

Nipped in here as we were staying locally. The decor is really nice, and the staff are very friendly. The food selection is good too. The outdoor area has a really interesting layout with lots of covered 'pods' which I imagine is excellent in the summer for al fresco dining and drinking. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

The place is so clean, staff are very friendly and nice, food is spot on, so romantic globes out side and very close to the castle, really recommend and will definitely come back. One of the best country side hotels I have ever been to.

Great find pub - food good, drinks good, great real fire experience. We stayed over & our room was nice with lovely welcoming gifts 🎁 nuts, crisps, popcorn, chocolate & Port was a lovely touch. Only downside was the wet dog smell on hallway to our room; not nice.Ps pub smell was lovely
