The Portsmouth Arms in Basingstoke and Deane

My partner and I were going in for dinner and we took my assistance dog in with us. The staff were terrific.Very welcoming and friendly, ordering food and drinks was simple and swift. The food was fabulous. I'd asked about a wee treat for doggo and this wasn't a let down either! He loved it, his treat yum. He can be a bit of a fuss pot, a very unique trait for a Labrador 🐾 🤣

We were a little disappointed when we arrived for a Sunday roast. Despite booking a table for the two of us we were advised there wasn’t room in the restaurant area and weren’t given the option to wait. So we were sat on a table in front of the bar instead, where there’s also no table service. On a rugby day it was far from the chilled out experience we wanted. Once we were sat down we were informed that there were no roasts left, which was our main reason for visiting. We were quite disappointed about this and opted for a burger instead. The waitress we had was lovely which is why I really don’t want to give a lower star rating. This was an area I grew up in and we used to have some great times at the Portsmouth Arms, however this was the last time that we’ll visit.

Lovely pub/ restaurant. But as with its sister pub the Holly Blue they seem to easily run out of stock. No Fursty Ferret, but the Badger's Best tastes very similar, so all good.

It's run down now compared to how I remembered it. The glasses on the tables looked smeary. Placed an order for 2 specials and they came back and said they only had one portion left, so I chose something else. They came back and said they didn't have any mash potatoes left so did we mind chips? Had to ask twice for water. A rather disappointing experience and would not go there again, which is a shame as I have fond memories of the place.

Met family there for lunch. Service was very good. The food was good also. However, despite being seated in the corner opposite the fire, it was freezing!

Decided last minute to go here as had a voucher for 30% off food, register on line for offer. Quite quiet for a Friday. Comfortable seating, limited but good menu, also interesting vegan options. Great waitress who explained everything, prompt and efficient service. Food was fine, my expectations were not high, but I was pleasantly surprised. In all very good value for money. Ps plenty of parking and sociable atmosphere.

Went there today (2021-12-30) to visit the Alpine Bar. We were really looking forward to this, sadly we were very disappointed. It’s almost as it they don’t know there is a pandemic going on.Okay, I will start with the good.The food was good, served quickly and plentiful. There was a good range and it was reasonably priced. There is an order at the table app, but that’s limited (okay, i’m struggling for goods)The bad.The table ordering service is only for the main food, I had to order at the bar for the Alpine bar food. This means when they don’t have the food or drinks on the menu you have to go back to the table to change the order.The Alpine bar is set up in a tent put up in the beer garden, but it’s so poorly laid out that the only place people can congregate to talk is at the doorway into the tent, so you have to force you way past people to get to the bar / your table.No sign of cleaning table between customers. When we were taken to the table the service person (the only one wearing a mask) just took the detritus of what was on the table and seated us there.Rather then spread out diners people are all packed together, we had to walk through an empty restaurant section to be seated in a busy tent.No knives or forks, not a deal breaker but no napkins either, so you end up with greasy fingers.I appreciate that the staff won’t want to police the mask mandate, it for goodness sake wear them as an example. I only saw one member of staff wearing a mask. This probably explains whey they have staffing issues and have had to put signed up about their closing early over the next couple of days.

We visit their weekly market and have been to the pub a few times now too. The food is always delicious and the service is great too. There's a play area in the back so the little ones are entertained too (suitable for older children).

It was my first time visiting the Portsmouth Arms, it was a visit with the family, and well worth the experience the food was amazing it was lovely pub food with a little something extra and worth every penny, the staff were very polite and helpful and the pub had a lovely atmosphere which a lot of places have been missing in recent months and a big thankyou to Sarah C for her great service. Would highly recommend the Portsmouth Arms to any one thinking about going there either for a drink or food.

Super place a family lunch. Delicious food, also vegan food available as well as for children. Indoor or outdoor seats available. There is also a small play ground area for children. Parking is also available for the customers.
