Visited for a Sunday roast. Lovely staff and food was lovely. Live piano player creates a nice atmosphere. We'll worth a visit.

We stayed in Preston park recently right next door to the pub. Great atmosphere, staff extremely friendly and welcoming. We felt like a local. Quiz night on Tuesday is great fun. Try their roasts delicious but may need to book in advance x

I booked a table for Sunday the 5th December, a week in advance for 4 people at 6pm for roast dinner at The Crown and Anchor inn Preston Road Brighton. As the kitchen was stated as open till 6pm we thought that we would be ok. We pre ordered via our online booking. The late booking was due to a member of the party working.On Saturday the 4th a member of staff called to ask if we were still coming. We said we were and that we had pre ordered roast dinners. The member of staff stated that this was ok and gave no indication that our booking would be a problem.On Sunday the day of our booking the manager Hugo contacted us to say he was cancelling our booking as the kitchen would be closed. This was 2 hours before our booking. I explained that the website said the kitchen shut at 6pm so what was the issue and that we had spoken to staff the previous day and confirmed our booking. The manager would not apologies even when I asked him to, he could only argue and say that the kitchen wouldn't be open but they could microwave the dinners. Unfortunately I was not willing to pay £13 to £15 for a microwave dinner. I am not sure what part of cancelling 2 hours before does the manager feel is acceptable.To prove that I could book a table a friend of mine rebooked for the following week at 6pm. We had every intention of turning up. But once again the booking was cancelled. I sent an email to Hugo the manager showing him images of his website showing the kitchen shut at 6pm. He responded with the following e mail."Dear LeighThank you for your emailClearly you have way too much time on your hands to let tiny things like this go. You felt the need to book under a fake name for this Sunday.May I suggest, actually advise that you find a different venue for your future use.Kindest regardsHugo"The meal the previous week had been with friends we hadn't seen for nearly a year due to the pandemic. Obviously this is a "tiny thing" and there is no respect or consideration for the inconvenience that was caused.I'm half expecting this review may get a response from Hugo again questioning my integrity, however unless it gets changed ( may I suggest Hugo that you do change it) the evidence is in black and white on your website.I see now that after I have written the above , you have updated your website. I hope this saves any future customer the disappointment we experienced.

Stubbled upon this place by accident just looking for some food at 4:30 and told they didn't start serving till 5:30 so since it was a lovely atmosphere and the Guinness and wine very palatable stayed till the kitchen opened. Wow.... So well worth the wait the new cook Chef Tim is a wizard! the chicken wings were crispy with a coating that was both spicy and sweet and salty with sesame seeds. The muscles generous portion buttery with garlic and herbs as they should be. I had the steak medium rare with the chimichurri full of fresh herbs and spices, a delight the chips I believe triple cooked lite and fluffy on the inside even the dressing on the salad was exceptional. My friend had steak aswell with possibly the best peppercorn sauce I've ever tasted, creamy packed with soft peppercorns. The service was great all staff lovely and very amenable. Looks spit and saw dust from the outside, but actually very airy and nicely done once you're through the door. Polite and friendly service. Glad we popped in.

Excellent Sunday lunch with a pint of best bitter. Had the leg of lamb which was lovely, cooked with a hint of pink. More than enough food with a huge Yorkshire pud on top. Lovely

Popped in with the kids and husband for a quick drink and some crisps after a walk in the park around 5:00 pm. Staff were polite and offered to bring the Guinness to the table as it was half poured. When they brought it to the table they said the manager wanted us to know that no children were allowed after 7 pm somewhat sheepishly. My son worried he wouldn't finish his crisps in time. Just felt it was a bit odd.

A nice pub. We needed somewhere to have a quick drink and chat and this pub was perfect. Good service, friendly staff, clean and tidy.

Nice pub. Very friendly staff. Ok beer choice. Quite a bit of seating inside. A few chairs and tables out back. The food was very good. Simple but tasty.Bit of an older crowd but nice and relaxed. Good for a quite drink. Would definitely go back for another drink and maybe even food!
