Black Horse in Cherwell

We have been coming to the Black Horse for years now. The only words I can describe this pub is INCREDIBLE!Staff are so attentive and have time to explain and never seem rushed when asking questions. The menu is expressive with lots of different lovely dishes. I can recommend the burger and also they do amazing Steaks!All I can say is… it’s probably up there with not only the best pub in Thame, but near best in Bucks/Oxford!(I was also not paid for this review, it really is that good!)

we were lucky to get a table without booking. Menu has enough choice for most people, just a little short on vegan options. Food and service very good. Nice choice of wines and beers. Good atmosphere and decor. Recommended.

Great location - popped in here after a trip to Bicester Village and it did not disappoint. Massive venue but with lots of more cosy sections.Food was excellent - I especially recommend the pork belly with rhubarb dish! So seasonal and the pork belly was so tender!! Ah and not to forget the snails. It was my first time trying these in the UK and it will not be my last!

Lovely building. Friendly staff. Delicious food. Recommend the pain perdu...a delicious concoction of French brioche toast, poached pear, salted caramel, honeycomb and ice cream.

We met some friends here for lunch one Sunday in early February, none of us had been here before. From the street it looks like quite a small place, but it isn't, it goes back a long way! We were in the back room, which was absolutely fine, it was nice and warm and really busy. There was space between the tables and although it was busy, we felt fairly Covid safe. There was actually a screen between us and a big table next to us.The menu is good, wide ranging and appealing. Our food arrived all at the same time, beautifully cooked and presented. The ingredients are fresh and of a high quality, and the food was nice and hot.There are lots of staff to help, they were all very friendly and professional. We really liked the place and I hope we will go back there again.

Service was great, they kindly put a candle in the dessert for my father in law without being asked. There was some upsell on sides which we hadn’t realised were extras. Cashless venue which I didn’t see on the site when I booked. The food was average. Not enough bread with the patè starter. Kids menu is fairly small. Salmon was bland, coconut rice didn’t have a nice after taste & the pork belly wasn’t as good as expected however kids chicken was really fresh & the pie was good too. We all had the Poached Pear which was alright. Overall most of the food was average /alright. Service was good and I would probably go again but maybe be more picky about what I get.

We were recommended to The Black Horse by the local hotel we were staying in and despite not having a reservation, we were accommodated immediately. The staff were superb; they seemed incredibly efficient and we felt well looked after. Yes, the food is slightly pricey, but it was delicious. The tables were cleaned thoroughly in-between each use and I was pleased to see Perspex screens still in use at each table. We can highly recommend a visit here and will certainly be returning when next in the area.

Lovely food and attentive staff. There was a large group of 10 and we were placed on a very nice wide table at the end of the rear area and it allowed it to feel like our own room, despite it being part of a larger collection of tables. The food and drinks weren't rapid in their arrival but were all excellent. Kids food was a good (not huge) size and caters for children's fickle choices by allowing them to put on their sauce or cheese or whatever. Adults food was all good, malabar curry was very good.We were their for a birthday meal and the staff joined in with the singing and made it a really nice evening, thank you

Ok, maybe a fiver more expensive than usual but I so enjoyed this meal..a real culinary experience without breaking the bank. Thank you! Bar area was dog friendly too. Service excellent! Will be back.

We dined here with friends at the weekend. The vegetarian food was excellent. The waitress was great. It was a lovely evening out.
