Cromwell Lodge Hotel Restaurant and Bar in Cherwell

Went for evening meal, it's was good, they asked if we want bread, thought it was in the price, not until got receipts it wasn't. £1.29, for a slice of dried bread, just fit for the birds, we didn't eat.

Posh and proper English vintage hotel too (which is right up my street for aesthetics) but with a modern touch. Booking includes free breakfast (I think English breakfast too) .. Only thing is it can be very loud but Its depending on time of year you go, like Christmas.. They have a pub and disco floor downstairs so it gets pretty lively .. =O 🍻 😂

Stayed here for one night, room was comfortable and had everything we needed, staff were efficient and friendly. Breakfast was delicious, just wish I was forewarned that it wasn't included in the price ( not the hotels fault, I had booked through booking.com !) Will definitely stay here again but will be booking through Cromwell Lodge directly!

Accommodation could have been better, either too hot or cold. Squeaky floorboards throughout the hotel,listening to next door room going to toilet and then hearing the water flushing away. Needs a through re declaration, wallpaper falling off the walls, water marks on ceilings

Despite a shortage of staff they should be highly commended for the way they conducted themselves. We stayed for two nights as we were attending Mum's interment of her ashes 18 months after she passed. Breakfast was lovely, the room and ensuite was beautifully clean and the staff were lovely, excellent and the way we were looked after at the celebration of Mum's life was incredible 11 out of ten. Thank you so much for being great. Highly recommend them. The only thing that stopped it being 12 out of ten was the hotel upstairs was shabby and needed some TLC xx

Cromwell lodge location is ideal for the high street, where there are many lovely restaurants and shops. The hotel is a little tired, but the room was spacious and clean, the bathroom needed a total revamp, no hot water for the entire stay, was informed that 2 of the 3 boilers were broken and has been for over 3 months. The restaurant was closed due to staff shortage, but breakfast was served. Staff were helpful and polite. Overall a pleasant stay but only because Banburys restaurant were superb, left after breakfast as was in need of a shower.

Good hotel for the area. Big old 1799 building, so it's got all the quirky layouts you would expect, as well as 222 years of wear and tear. Relatively well priced (relative to the area again). Reasonable breakfast, but nothing to write home about. Restaurant wasn't operating as chef was "unavailable" for two nights. My suspicion is they had [removed]. Loads of old charm, and a bar at the front, although it felt a bit disorganised and a bit run down in parts. Fairly quiet place in the last days of writing this. Good customer car park to the rear, but has a blind and narrow side entrance to watch for. Rented two rooms, each with double bed, ensuite, TV, kettle, tea/coffee, and the usual hotel paraphernalia. Both were easily good enough for travelling, but if your a bit of a dainty princess, you might have issues with little things. Hotel is right in the centre of Banbury, easy to walk around the town from, although that wasn't too impressive TBH.

Overall it was okay here. Very quiet which is a shame as its a nice location.I had the seabass and scallop risotto and it was very light and tasted absolutely perfect. Not sure how fresh it all is but it certainly tasted and appeared like it had been cooked especially for me.The service was very attentive (being the only customer I kind of expected it).My only negative is that there were a few chips on the floor and given how empty the place was, I would imagine they were there from the previous days service so the night clean was lacking.

Had a lovely night at Cromwell Lodge. Big room with a comfortable bed and nice roll top bath. Breakfast was tasty and a good size portion to set you up for the day. The staff were very friendly and made us very welcome.We also had an evening meal in the restaurant and the food was delicious. The rump steak and the chicken tikka come highly recommended

Okay experience, but wouldn't recommend to a friend.We visited as a group of 3 for Saturday lunch. The restaurant wasn't busy. The hotel receptionist multitasks as a waitress and bartender. You order the food at the bar with her, she makes your drinks and takes payment for everything up front. Which I like, there's no surprises at the end of your meal.She didn't really know the drinks menu and created our cocktails from what was available- some of the liquor and mixers weren't there. So that was a bit disappointing.From the menu we ordered garlic ciabatta, sea bass risotto, roasted pork and BBQ rib with shredded pork and chips.The risotto was not that impressive. No flavour in the rice and the fish was slightly overcooked.It was not disgusting, but definitely can make nicer one at home.The rest enjoyed their mains and we had a good chat with the staff too. They made the experience a lot more memorable and enjoyable.Having said that I wouldn't go back for food. Maybe they are better with the British classics.
