Hanwell Arms in Cherwell

My partner, son & myself had our meal in this pub tonight. We were warned by the manager that there was a trainee chef working tonight so there may be a delay with food. We had also heard staff explaining this to other customers, like ourselves were okay with this. The food we had was very tasty & hot and was served at the same time. We found the staff here very pleasant & polite.

I visited this pub the other day with my husband. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We had our evening meal, which was very nice, compliments to the chef! Would recomend

We decided to go for lunch on a Saturday, we only wanted a roll or sandwich, we ordered chicken and bacon on whole grain bloomer, we waited ages and when it came it was brown bread, no butter and very dry, we ended up filling them with mayo just to hold them together!

Went for lunch on Saturday.We ordered sandwiches. Waited ages for it to arrive after having to go and ask how long it was likely to be.The chicken and bacon sandwich was ordered on multigrain bloomer and came on normal whole meal bread with no butter Also the cheese and onion came with no butter and fell apart. We had to put Mayo in the sandwich to help it stay together.We tried to order a coffee but no milk alternative was offered therefore could not have one.

Have visited the Hanwell Arms on many occassions previously and has always been a little hit and miss, however recently the new management have really been trying to improve things and this is shown in the food quality and service we have received when visiting. As a family we really enjoying coming here and would definitely recommend it.

First meal out with our newborn and my Dad who I haven’t seen for months so was very much looking forward to treating them to a great meal out. Having visited website several times we had chosen our meals before arriving but were taken aback when presented with a specials menu with very limited choice. This was not made clear on the website. Staff were very helpful though and service was great.

We took our son out for a birthday meal, have to say very disappointed. The menu was too basic. We waited a while for our food. The kids couldn't eat the burgers as they was over cooked hard and very dry. The salad looked wilted. Chips again over cooked and hard. Steak wasn't cooked "rare" hunters chicken was black underneath and very hard and dry, soggy onion rings.The manager was lovely couldn't apologize enough and did refund us for the food. There was no table service we was wasn't asked once if our food was okay. And one member of bar staff was too busy enjoying jagers at the bar instead of checking on customers.We used to love the hanwell and the food, sad to say we'll never return. Such a shame. To the lovely manager I think a shake up with some new staff, you could turn this around. Wish you luck with the future of the pub

Great atmosphere, all round lovely people. My sister works here and she couldn’t be happier, very happy with the management! Like one big happy family!

A family xmas dinner that we all were looking forward to.... We had to wait forever for the starters and they were appointing... The food looked like there was no preparation at all... It then took over an hour for our mains to arrive ..! Im sorry to say the Xmas mains were once again very disappointing it looked like it be thrown onto the plate...cold no Brussels, no cranberry sauce and no bread sauce!! Everything was tasteless some of us only got a few veg! And pudding were just the same... A very disappointing dinner all round..We couldn't eat it... Not sure if we'll be eating there again... The staff on the other hand were all very nice snd courteous... ☹️

Whenever I've came for just drinks to the Hanwell Arms I was enjoying myself great staff always super nice.But when it comes to Food over the past few years it was unfortunately always a disappointment. Today we thought we'd see if it might have been improved and I really fancied a roast. My kids had chicken dippers and fishfingers which were OK but a bit hard but it was ok. The turkey wasn't the worst but potatoes were frozen.. the gravy was more like goo. And the Yorkshires probably reheated a few times.we also had a burger with some burnt onion rings and burnt beef. Can't say anything negative about the chips.. Wouldn't recommend the food unfortunately. Maybe for a nibble of chips. But yeah it definitely just needs improvement. Perhaps a good chef and some kitchen staff that know what they're doing.. just as a suggestion. Will still be back for drinks :)
