Red lion in Cherwell

Great food let down by poor service. We had Sunday roasts, beef and three meats. And the pie. All very tasty and well presented. Kids had burgers and ate the lot. Table service wasn't, example main course plates still on the table when dessert arrived.

Staff were efficient and friendly. Real ales and food was very tasty and fresh. Lovely old pub ambiance, plenty of parking and a beautiful location on the forest. Have eaten here many times and has always been consistently of a high standard. Highly recommend 😀

Lovely pub, great staff, decent beer, fun kids playground and dog friendly.We had a Sunday roast which was mostly good (parsnips were hard and the broccoli was mushy). The rest of the menu looked good.

Small menu of crowd pleasing dishes all looked good and served hot. We eat inside as it was cold but pub has a huge garden which look like it would be great on a summers evening

I've been twice and had the Roast on both occasions. Absolutely fantastic taste, and a very large quantity - which is exactly what I want. On the mixed Roast the second time I had it, there was a bit too much Turkey. My Dad is also of the view the mixed Roasts are not always equally mixed, he had a Lamb, Beef, and Pork mix, and there was no Lamb there. But these really are minor quibbles, would definitely recommend to those who love a good Roast. Yorkshire Puddings are one of the biggest ones I've seen, homemade too, fantastic. This is review is based on the feedback of 7 people, all of whom have had the Roast. One of our new favorite pubs. The service is alright, but not brilliant, typical pub service.

Think it's our new favourite for meeting friends equidistant from us. The roast was amongst the best I'd had from a pub. Great selection of beer. Friendly staff. Great garden. We were a big table on a busy Sunday. You really would struggle to do any better than The Red Lion.

Lovely pub, food was really good and loads of it. Our table wasn't ready when we got there so waited on the comfy sofas by the fire with our drinks. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

Friendly and accommodating staff - particularly impressed by how all meals for a large table were brought at the same time. Nice big garden and play area for kids. Food was OK - some meals better than others, venison pie in particular was good. Would certainly come again with kids especially given the location.

Was staying in the area for the weekend for my birthday. We decided to book dinner for Saturday at the Red Lion, and this place did not disappoint! Ordered the halloumi burger and chips and so did my girlfriend. We both had some requests to change the order slightly and one of the two lovely ladies working that night, was very eager to help and engage to make us feel comfortable. The drinks were made with quality ingredients and not cheap watered down coke that you usually find in pubs. The two lady workers who served us that night were extremely kind and welcoming and helped us with anything we asked. Well done!

Amazing food, best Sunday roast I've had in a long time. Service brilliant. Beautiful garden and play area for the kids. Would definitely be coming back.
