Duke & Rye in Chichester

Went there on a Wednesday night with 2 friends who were down for dinner. Whilst talking.to my friends partner could see a member of staff stood off to the side cleaning tables saying something. I asked to repeat as didn’t hear and the member of staff I quote snarled “you got a problem what are you #@&* staring at you keep looking at me”.Disgusting behaviour that I would expect from drunken louts not a staff member cleaning tables, I certainly won’t be back too old for that type of hassle.Wasn’t greatly impressed with Managers reply that the person didn’t really work there they were volunteers there to clean by the owner and so wouldn’t do anything as the person in question probably wouldn’t be back after that day. Hmmmmmm

Very interesting decor, staff were friendly. Offered amongst the food were snacks which are a bit cheaper than many other places in town - though not actually cheap. The tuna bake I got certainly wasn't pretensious but it was good.

Beautiful venue but don't eat here. Worst lunch experience since lockdown ended. Order wrong due to confusion between lunch and dinner menu (not our fault) no tartar sauce with our battered fish (although listed on the menu they didn't have any tartar sauce. We weren't warned) By the time we found that out our food was getting cold. A dog was sitting on one of the restaurant chairs. Also no loo paper in my cubicle - nasty! The waiter agreed things were wrong and apologised but didn't put anything right. We didn't let it spoil our lovely day but still...

Had my sisters baby shower here and it was such a great experience! The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we wanted and needed! Thank you so much to all the staff for making it such a lovely experience. They're such a kind and helpful bunch. Very good food too! Definitely recommend 👌

Pub in a lovely setting. The Duke and Rye is in an old church opposite Chichester Cathedral. The bar is a standard bar with a pretty average menu (not putting it down at all, if you want Pub Grub, this place is perfect. But don't come if you are after a gastro-pub)The staff where all very friendly and the place is dog friendly. But the real star is the building with many of the original features left or reinstated. A wonderful and often quiet place for a drink or a meal.

Went for lunch with my parents, 15 minutes after they had finished their dinner, mine & my sons finally turned up. Food was cooked terribly, with the bun so over cooked it was black and rock solid. Really bad food. Definitely do not waste your money on the Nachos. It’s a plate of Doritos with stodgy cold sauce.Edited to say - we did tell the server as we ordered together. He even said I’ll put it in together and do your drinks. We made them fully aware when we ordered, together. I made the staff aware whilst we were waiting as well.

Credit to the lady running the place on her own behind the bar.However, all of our pints tasted soapy and it so clear that the owners are making little to no effort to run a place that has so much potential. Won’t be back.

Fascinating old church that has been nicely converted into this pub. When I visited mid-afternoon, it was pretty quiet. Staff were friendly and helpful.There is a pool table, quiz machine and TV. Imagine it gets pretty busy in the evening but nice place for a mid afternoon drink.

Really amazing pub in the heart of Chichester. Used to be part of the old church. Really relaxing atmosphere and great food.

When I was 17 I thought "when I turn 18 I'll try that pub/church....thing, see what it's like" and I can honestly say I haven't left 5 years since....it was such a warm atmosphere, friendly smiles, the music acoustics where just....it echoed everywhere so you never missed a beat/vocal....anything, plenty of drink varieties, gins, vodkas, beers, bottles, ales....they had ALLL the classics and more....I tried my first sexton whisky as a recommendation and its now my favourite, I HIGHLY recommend the Duke and Rye for ALL occasions, they even rent out the back of the bar for weddings, parties, reception, I did have a go at the inferno chicken burger.....my god that was hot... 2 chicken burgers with inferno sause in the middle with cheese and side order of chips....can't go wrong...but would recommend a cold drink to cool off your mouth. But in all seriousness I definitely wouldn't recommend this place if I didn't think it was worth the time, money and memories..., its even dog friendly so you'll know I'll bring my dogs in here.
