Very poor food. I ordered whole plaice which arrived with ⚫ black new potatoes. I took a photo wish i could upload. Obviously cooked cooled then re used. I very politely pointed out to which this young boy told me quite rudely that is how new potatoes look. Astonishing 😲 his attitude was very condescending. We will NEVER return. Over priced underwhelmed. Older polite staff would have handled situation with professionism.

Nice cosy pub with beer garden and staff were friendly. However I wouldn't eat there again - I ordered the beef "brisket" burger and it's one of the worst burgers I've had in a long time (tasteless and rubbery like it was from a box) and the coleslaw was saturated in mayo and overpowering taste of onion. Not worth £16.50 at all.

Quite average food. Pork roast very dry and lamb was ok but a terrine. Service very poor and sporadic, untrained young people without a basic knowledge, just dish runners. Prices on the higher end service charge comes included in the bill

Been coming here for a few decades, I have never been disappointed. For me it's a specail occasion place where I know I can pick anything from the menu and find it delicious even things I would never attempt elsewhere. The chef is a true talent and the staff attentive but not over the top. Save up and treat yourself you are worth this opportunity.

Had an early Saturday lunch booking here last week; despite having to make a couple of changes to the booking the staff were very accommodating. The food was excellent - a varied and interesting menu plus a good wine list - and service just couldn’t have been better. Would certainly recommend.

Great food and Friendly staff. Cosy locals pub. Plus you might get to meet forest if you're lucky enough.

Fabulous venue especially with the brilliant weather we had for November with punters able to drink and dine outside. However we were inside with my elderly aunt but the atmosphere service and all our food courses were excellent and James was great with the wine selection. Top place. I will be back. Cheers RBS

We were staying at the nearby West Dean College so booked a meal at the Royal Oak for a Thursday evening. Great service, great beer and fabulous food. There is a cosy little public bar with a real fire which looked very inviting, we dined in the main part of the pub, which had good Covid precautions in place. My unusual crab crumpet starter and venison main course were both outstanding, and my wife enjoyed her artichoke ravioli. A shout out too for the local Lavant beer, which was the best pint I've had for ages. If we're ever in the area again (we're not local) we'll definitely visit the beautiful Royal Oak again.
