The Black Horse Pub and Eating House in Chiltern

Excellent pub. Visited recently for the first time in years. Friendly staff and great atmosphere.

No pub lunches until July as only just opened again

The Black Horse has just reopened under new management so we popped in for lunch to test it out. Chesham sausage and mash was delicious, as was chicken tagine. For dessert, rhubarb panna cotta and lemon tart were excellent.

If you're not someone who goes here at least once a week, don't go. They are set up for regulars only.Great food, quick to serve you a drink and very nice staff. However the table management at Sunday lunchtime is dreadful. After booking long in advance, when we arrived we were told that that we would have to wait a couple minutes before we could get a table. There were about three empty tables but apparently they were booked for someone else (in other words they were prioritizing regulars). We then waiting a full 30 minutes before we were finally seated and informed that the menu was 'the usual Sunday roast'.I'm sure if that's the same pub you've been to for 7 generations then the pub is great. However, they really need to up their game if they ever want new customers.

Recently went to this local pub and I was pleasantly surprised. It was my sister's wedding and she had her wedding lunch here. The food was absolutely amazing. Everything that we had was made from scratch, the presentation was amazing too. The manager and staff were very helpful and polite. I will definitely be returning and would recommend this place. Well done for making my sister's wedding day so special.

Really nice lunch all cooked from scratch very tasty and ample portion chicken and mushroom pie roasted veg and mash with sticky toffee pudding and custard sweet. Lovely setting with warm and cosy log fire. Thoroughly worth a visit

Really great friendly pubs we've visited on several occasions . Food looks very good although we haven't tried yet with a very varied menu. Fish and chip van visits the pub every Monday , very unusual but that's part of the charm. Real ale is kept well and varied.

I was pleasantly surprised. I want to hire their decorator to furnish my house. I found the entrees to be very agreeable to my personal flavor-profile. The waitress did an excellent job. Everything I tried was bursting with flavor. Solid 4 stars.

5* +Thankyou so much Michelle, Richard and your staff.We had a meal here for a colleague leaving work...Eighteen of us attended and the evening couldn't have been more of a success.From the wonderful welcome, fabulous food and excellent service.Nothing was too much trouble..everyone made sure the evening went perfectly.They didn't even mind our out of tune singing and dancing and one member of staff even tried to teach us to 'floss!I can't recommend the Black Horse enough.We are planning our next meal as I type!

The Black Horse doesn't pretend to be anything more than a lovely pub serving excellent food in a nice atmosphere, which is just what it is. What more can you ask of anywhere?The team working there from Piers to the chefs, to the bar and serving staff are just excellent. They are helpful, knowledgeable and caring. Something a lot could learn from.We have now eaten there many times and every time it maintains its very high standard. As a pub it has great beer and the wines to complement the food are very good indeed with good prices.I could go on and on but the best thing would be for others to try this little gem. You won't be disappointed I am sure.
