Had Sunday lunch pre-ordered food.sat at table at 13.00 and food did not arrive until 14.05. No apologies for wait then they gave us menu's for the desserts but they didn't come back for our order so we gave up and got the bill and guess what, it was the only thing that we didn't have to wait for. Throughout the 4 yes 4 hours we were there not one of the staff smiled and looked like they were rather not there. We have been there many times before and no problems but we are now taking it off our Sunday roast pubs.

Attended for a birthday party. The service was incredible, despite there being a very large group of people. The staff were attentive and friendly all night. The food was a buffet selection (the choice of the party organiser), lots of vegan/vegetarian options and very tasty. The cocktails were also very well made. Would highly recommend this pub and a big thank you to all the hardworking staff for making it a memorable evening!

The food was delicious. My wife and I decided to try a Sunday roast, something outside our typical Jamaican cuisine and we were blown away by the flavours and how well prepared the lamb and pork was. The ambiance was also comfly and welcoming and the service was excellent. I would definitely recommend Malt Shovel to any body.

Really nice Sunday roasts, the staff are so lovely here and one of the chefs Bradley works so hard to deliver the best roast dinners . Would highly recommend this place if you can can get a booking before me !!!

I have been going to the Malt Shovel for well over twenty years, and until recently I have loved the place, but my recent experiences have changed this. Last time I visited with a friend for lunch, we were told that the kitchen was closed, without prior warning. Today I have just got home after a visit to the Malt Shovel with my Mother and sister. We had pre booked a table for lunch. We placed our food order at 12.25, but we were not served until 1.15, despite the pub being almost empty on a Friday lunch time. The vegetables accompanying my Mother and sisters meals were soggy and overcooked when they eventually arrived, and the bread for my sandwich was seriously stale. We complained to the waiter and he said the reason our order had taken so long was that we were the first order of the day. This was unacceptable. The pub used to be seriously busy on a Friday lunchtime, but today was almost empty when we eventually left at around 2pm. I suspect that customers may well be staying away if they experienced the extremely slow service and poor food. I am extremely disappointed.

I cannot believe this has been on our doorstep all this time and we didn't have a clue how amazing it is!The food is perfect!! In price, in portion size (we actually had to take a break between the starter and the main!) and taste was simply incredible. Each dish was clearly prepared with care and contained good quality ingredients.. No soggy veg here which is a pet hate of mine! I just wish we had left more space for dessert..next time! I honestly couldn't fault the food.We sat in the beer garden which is beautiful, didn't feel crowded and we sat on the decking so had cover from the rain.Service was awesome, we even liked the other customers we chatted to. The only tiiiny thing I would improve is having an option for better tonic water, I find Schweppes far too sweet and don't mind paying a little extra for a better quality one and would have been nice to have a bit of lime in there too but thats it.We will definitely be back soon to try more of the menu!

First time visit to this pub as we fancied a change!I have to admit the food and service was outstanding and went far beyond our expectations. They have a delicious tapas menu for starters and my wagu beef burger was perfect. The beer garden is cosy and the staff very polite. Toilets however could do with an upgrade! Parking is limited but there is another paid car park nearby. This is a real gem in Dartford!Definitely will be visiting again!
