Booked a table for 13 people for the 7th of April to turn up and for the place to be closed. We never got an email/text or any communication regarding the closure. If this was the other way round the company would be upset for losing out on money.Birthday ruined. We come here regularly and won't be returning again.Poor from the royal anchor.

Not been in there for a while but met the landlady, she is lovely, nice to chat to!The food was lovely, atmosphere was good, we went out for a meal with friends and ended up staying for a long time.We will definitely return.

We had the steak and the hunters chicken and it was really lovely the staff were so wonderful and helpful and was a really nice touch the chef coming out to speak to us too! Had an amazing evening and looking forward to going back again thank you 😊

Does exactly what it says on the tin. We all had a good value meal that we throughly enjoyed. Our server was new and did a great job looking after us in a way that was helpful but not intrusive. Food was piping hot and quick to come out. Puddings as always superb. Assistant manager friendly and on hand when needed.

Food was ok, service could have been better. Young staff somewhat inexperienced. As a group of 6, it took over 10 minutes for us all to be served our desert - so the people served first were half way through their food before the last people were served. 4 of the deserts were cold (ice cream & millionaire cheesecake)& 2 were pre prepared apple crumbles.Won't be rushing back.Plus someone had smashed a glass behind our car. Staff did come & sweep it up.

Sadly not what it used to be but they try hard and it is busy. Food took a long time and then was not what was ordered but rectified quickly, anyone can slip up when they're busy so no blame there in fairness. They were having some supply problems too we were told having run out of some of their burgers on a Saturday lunchtime???? Having been in the trade for years I find that more of a problem in ordering if you run out a day and a half short of finishing out a weekend but who knows with supply chains as they are so they get the benefit of the doubt from me. The food is always fairly above standard and very good value for money. It always saddens me when a place like the Royal Anchor is wiped clean all of its history - and it has a fantastic amount of history which will very soon be forgotten about if it isn't already - and turned into any old big uninteresting pub with TV's all over the place that no-one really hears or watches because it's too noisy to do so anyway. The good value food and hard working staff are what saves it but it's not the place that just a few years ago would be heaving with people and the food was talked about by just about everyone and was a place that people strove to get into. There's no good reason to avoid the place in my opinion, they're doing their best in a tough climate.

Awful awful chicken. Chicken New Yorker. £7.49. The menu states 2 chicken breasts (but you only actually receive one with an excuse that these are from a different supplier.) Who knows how they heat it up, but the texture is not how chicken should be it was awful like rubber. Lesson learnt.

Super polite staff. Lynette and Sam were so warm and friendly. Lovely to chat to. Very understanding when I entered my table number wrong. Food was quick and tasted like pub classic. Shout out to Niall for his chef skills. Just a really bubbly atmosphere!

Came for a friends birthday, was welcomed straight away with friendly faces and being asked if we were okay. Once seated, we are very kindly looked after by Lynette and Sam who throughout the night have made sure we are happy and enjoying our experience. Updating us of the food and communications from the kitchen. Food took only a few moments to come and was presented and tasted spot on! It’s hard to find good halloumi fries but Naill aced it! Too quality food, with a chilled welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff… we will definitely back!

Updating my review after a bad experience just over a month ago. This evening we returned for dinner and couldn't fault it. The service was great and as was the food and it was alot cleaner than last time 😊
