Superb service in a lovely, friendly pub. Highly recommend a visit. The beer was good too :)

All fresh cooked to order, friendly team who made us feel welcome and most of all gave us the assurance that with an entirely gluten free menu two of our party could have whatever they fancied. Excellent experience. Will be back.

A really lovely looking pub (inside and out) with an excellent gluten-free menu - the only thing that lets it down is the surly and unhelpful young barman. One of the boys is very sweet and helpful and but the other one doesn't seem to want to be there.

Was my first trip to the newly managed George and it wasn't a pleasant experience. What I assume were senior staff were generally rude and we heard them say 'why can't people just close the door!?' When customers left. Not a great way to speak about paying customers. Staff were sitting on a table near us, drinking and staring at us and we were told to 'pull our dog in' despite our dog being less than a metre from the table and being beautifully behaved. The only laugh that we had was with the table next to us as we were both being essentially told off by the bar staff...and that's as good as it got. We only went for a quiet drink, won't be making this my local or visiting again.

Great little bistro style pub. Nice lighting and relaxing place to go to. Staff are very pleasant and helpful and a touch of wit. Good connection to customers…

I don’t normally review pubs online. But this really did bother meI was Drinking in the George pub ALTON tonight with friends and family, a pub I have been drinking and eating in for years and years, (just a few quiet drinks with my dad and friends tonight )we got treated so badly by the landlord, Time had been called by the bar staff so we were were drinking up our last drinks ( we were not drunk or Disruptive in anyway), rather aggressively the landlord appreared and we got told that “we had had been told to drink up and so leave now”. We went to leave and the aggressive language continued. It was super unprofessional and saddening to the point he told us we were not welcome back in to his pub!!! Shocking as no one had done anything at all!!After all these years of happy customers of the George 😞We were not problem whatsoever and it came from nowhere. It’s hard or explain in writing but I highly recommend not drinking in this establishment. It was horrible

Nice pub, excellent food, great beer. Better yet whole menu is gluten free and not noticeable to the unaffected

Updating my review to reflect the new tenancy.TL;DR - Good pub. Great food. Nice concept - something different for the area.Having seen the new menu before the re-open I was keen to visit and try out the gluten free menu. The menu feels progressive and thoughtful with something for everyone. The added bonus is that everything is gluten free- which brings a welcome change to the rest of the pubs in the area as this had previously been something only really found in larger towns/cities. It is with noting this also extends to a selection of gluten free beers. Being an advocate of a gluten reduced diet this is perfect, and the food tastes excellent (if you are worried that the gluten free aspect detracts from the overall taste/quality of the food this is certainly not the case!).Not much, however, can be said for the décor as the inside of the pub was mid renovation when we visited- this didn't present an issue due to COVID restrictions meaning we had to eat outside under a marquee. We are looking forward to seeing what they do to the place! All in all a great dining experience with fab food and attentive service. I hope this pub continues to thrive under its new tenancy whilst maintaining its welcoming and cosy atmosphere.Ps- the website also states the aim is for zero waste after the first year - which is a huge positive in anyone's books!!Pps - go for the gluten free brownie and thank me later!
