This place has massively uplifted its game in the last year. Outdoor tables aplenty and decent new kids play area outside. Service at the bar can be slow and the layout can make entry to and from the garden tricky but overall a decent pub.

Fabulous old pub...approx 1460... great decor, exceptional cleanliness in toilet facilities...staff are pleasant and knowledgeable... thoroughly recommend. ...Regards, Joe Kelly.

A disappointing visit. Having come to the Bell the last 25 years it’s noticeable that Green King have not been sympathetic to the pubs history or decor. In brief: Eye contact from 3 staff members upon entering was nonexistent; the fish and chips main was really poor. I suspect they’d run out of Cod and palmed me off with (Part of the ‘signature’ meal too) with an OAP special portion, the chips were hard, lukewarm and of the oven variety; the burger distinctly average; really poor contemporary pop music that sucked any ambiance into its vortex; the GK interior designer made sure to make a historically significant pub look like any other imagination-less, money-centred, charmless pub.

Came at 12 in the afternoon on a Thursday for lunch with my Mum and my young son. The staff were still all sitting at a table chatting and one or two of them were on their phone. No acknowledgment of our arrival, but the young girl serving did greet us and was friendly. I asked as soon as I got there if they were out of anything food-wise as I wanted to know before I chose my lunch from the menu. we were told a couple of items not available and happily went to find a seat. To cut a long story short I went back and forth to our table to repeat that they didn't have that available. After the 5th time of us choosing food and it being denied I said to my Mum let's just go as this was unexceptable and my son was also very hungry. We'd been there almost half an hour of them opening by this point and the staff were still sitting around chatting. As we left my Mum asked why there was no food and we were told they had had a busy weekend (this day however was a Thursday) they were waiting for a food delivery but had no idea when it would arrive. I said we were going somewhere else to which we heard "ok, no worries". No apology as such.I've been here a few times and usually the service is ok but they didn't seem on top of things that day. Disappointing

What a turn aroundI went to the bell on Sunday I can’t tell you enough how impressed I was with my visitI’m not sure if they have new chefs or if it’s just because the menu is different now but my roast was lovely!I notice it’s under new management - what a brilliant feel about the pubIt was very crazy, extremely busy but the staff dealt with it so well. They were still so polite and friendlyGreat pub for all visitsFamily, friends, food, drinks and sport

Beautiful pub, I’ve visited this pub for the past few years. We’ve had family visits, visits with friends, for both food and drink but the past 7/8 months it’s like a different pubGreat Atmosphere, always very busy, food is lovely and very reasonably priced, manager is so friendly and welcomingMy recent visitHalf term and we were thinking what go do with the kids in the rain? I’m so glad we picked to come to the bell

Have been using this pub on and off for more than 50 years I am reluctant to give a mediocre review, but on this visit, whilst the beer and the surroundings were as good as ever, the wait for our main course was interminable. In the end we gave up and just paid for what we had consumed.I will visit again in the future in the hope that this was a one off abboration.

The oldest pub in the area built in the 1400s. Great vibe, always get chatting with locals. Highly recommended, big safe garden. Food is not great but it is a greene king brewery so no personal touch to the food. Ideally this pub should be privately owned with the same staff so you could get a faster served tasty meal. So much potential beyond being a great boozer. Hopefully summer bbq may up the game.

Lovely little local. Good range of drinks and food. Polite friendly service and great garden. Suitable for all types of people and families, very dog friendly. Ours loves a good sausage!
