It's an English pub. They need saving. It offers good value food, a good selection of drinks and great company. What more could you ask for

Nice back street pub. Couldn't sit inside because of covid. But nice out door seating arrangements with heaters. Went in to use washroom. Nice interior will visit when there is indoor drinking.

From the outset I'm biased. Having said that I love back street pubs and discovering them. This one of my favourites, even better I'm local to it. Tom great landlord of the old school. Great cellar, for maybe only a few real ales but never had a bad one. Food at reasonable rates, excellent quality. The building is very welcoming l, split between public and saloon with a real Victorian craved screen. Fabulous out door drinking in expensive comfortable seating and your bound to find a conversation from one of the clientele or at least a lick from one of the nicest pub dogs iv ever met (canine) haha. Ordered a whiskey and coke, something I drink most nights. Tasted strongly of chemicals. Owner flatly refused my polite request to swap it for something else only having sipped it.A friend I was with said he had a similar thing with a food order on fathers day. Owner wouldn't agree and it escalated. Would not recommend this place at all.Funny thing is though, I just moved to Claygateand was trying The Griffin as a local

Charming traditional pub with a real fire, friendly doggies and great food. The people who run it seem lovely as well.Off the beaten track but definitely worth seeking out.

The ale is poorly kept here, two pints of Hophead dispensed and both were cloudy and tasted bad. Was offered an alternative ale but the bar staff kept the Hophead on for the next unsuspecting customer.
