The Wyvern in Gosport

Disappointed in quantity and quality of meats, had pork and family member had lamb. Both very fatty and not a lot of it. Shame as venue is lovely and staff were great.

We popped into the Wyvern for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The pub was fairly quite when we arrived but had a lovely atmosphere.Unfortunately the service was so unbelievably slow. We ordered our drinks and had to wait half an hour for 3 cokes and a beer, after asking three times we finally got them.Again after a fairly long wait for our food with three very hungry children it finally arrived. I can’t say it was particularly nice - the jacket potato was so dry with a mere table spoon of beans on the side - it also appeared to be microwaved. The burgers were awful, dry and so dense. We decided not to stay for desert in the end.The pub itself is lovely and the staff were all friendly it’s just a shame the service and the food was so bad.

This location looked nice and the perfect setting for a family afternoon lunch. It was also nice to see the website promising a warm welcome, turns out the warm welcome is as falsely advertised as Volkswagen's emissions claims. We hadn't had chance to book as it was a last minute decision to eat out. On entering the establishment I waited in the small reception to see if they had room for us, whilst the rest filed into an empty table so as not to block the entry-exit. I asked the lady on the counter if I needed to book? The first thing she did was to point at our group and say, "That's not acceptable! " I was naturally puzzled by this, was this the warm welcome promised on the website? I asked her what the problem was? She told me bluntly that it was a restaurant, and you don't just come in and start moving tables around! We hadn't moved anything, just adjusted a chair to get the kids out of the way. She then told me in the same rude, blunt tone that dogs were not allowed. Another very puzzling comment as we don't own, nor have we ever owned a dog 🐕 I'm more of a cat person to be honest and I was pretty sure our cats were at home and had not managed to sneak out and join us for lunch 😻 By this time I'd made my mind up that we were not going to eat there and left. We eat out as a group most weekends at various locations in the South and have never-ever had an issue in any restaurant / pub. Maybe the greeter had a bad day, maybe there should be a clear sign on the lecturn at the entrance saying Please Wait To Be Seated. As for the accusations of owning a dog, that turned out to be a bag, and moving tables, well maybe the staff member shoulda gone to Specsavers😎NB: Many thanks to the management for the very lengthy if not in a little inaccurate reply to the above review. Firstly and without doubt most importantly there was no aggression offered toward you, in fact the only person animatedly raising their arms was the greeter. No one swore, or was rude, that is simply not how we do things, in fact I find that kind of behavior abbhorrent. The catalyst for the entire avoidable situation was your stand offish, abrupt and simply rude attidude at first point of contact, you know what they say about first impressions. As for having no etiquette, well we have eaten at numerous establishments over the years with no problem or complications. Yours was the first. As for being a little loud, I'll take that one but when you're towing around a five, nine and thirtenn year old it's a little hard to silence them without a gag, and that's a tiny bit draconian. Thankfully we had a nice meal, without issue, in another local eatery where we discussed what had happened with a couple of locals, funnily they said they don't go to your pub anymore due to how rude the staff have been. Anyway I'm done keyboard warrioring now, let's agree to disagree and move on, there are deeper far more worrying things in the world right now.

The pub looks really nice, we were looking forward for a sit down meal however me and my family were given a frosty welcome by the land lady, I have never been spoken to in this way by any employee when entering a pub she is a very rude person. we were accused of unacceptable behaviour. The accusations of taking a dog in with us when in fact it was mums hand bag, we were also accused of moving two table's together when my daughter just moved a chair. She became very aggressive with over animated hand gestures when we tried to explain we hadn't done any of the things and pointed out the assumed dog was in fact a bag. I asked her to show me what tables have been moved and asked where the dog was. Obviously she couldn't find any dog or moved table's. I guess our face's just didn't fit or maybe she was having a bad day.

Very good value for money. It's not fine dining but it is good, hot, cheap food. The general manager, Tracy, is most welcoming, friendly and helpful. An excellent pit stop.

We ordered the Sunday roast, but sadly the meat was cold. Staff were very apologetic and took the meals away to be reheated. The food was nice enough once returned, but disappointed as it was only 1pm. Given a complimentary dessert by way of apology.

Great service and a really good choice of food the menu. The food was really good and tasty.There's a great offer Monday - Wednesday.........6pm to 8.30pm. Visit the website for details (only because its easier than explaining on here)I had the Falafel burger and my friend had the chilli topped beef burger. Both were amazing A+++

More than disappointing. We chose to book a table here after seeing all the fantastic reviews and seemed to be the best place for a pub lunch in lee on solent, but I was wrong. The service was awfully slow and confused, considering it was a wednesday lunchtime only half booked, the food took an hour to arrive. The vegetables were rock hard and chicken burger with bacon was all burnt to a crisp so we just left it. The food was just all overdone, greasy and bland. The only reason I’m leaving 2 stars and not 1 is the fact the staff were very apologetic and did not charge us for both meals.

27th November 2021Me, my husband, my children, my mum and dad visited here for a late lunch, we arrived were seated straight away, it was nice to get out of the cold, we ordered drinks and our food, we got the drinks quick, but we waited nearly an hour for food, it did seem busy, once we got our food it was absolutely delicious and looked lovely and no complaints, we then had dessert which came out quick, again no complaints about the food.We will visit again probably next year.Thank you

This was my first time visiting The Wyvern in over 10 years. The pub had Friday night football on TV, the atmosphere was lively and friendly. The staff were very friendly and the drinks were all good. However we also ordered food, a friend ordered a chicken burger which he said was nice. Myself and another friend had a spicy cheese burger, which came with the smallest portion of chips I have ever seen, the burger meat was not very nice at all, it was dry and had very little flavour, we were very hungry so just ate it up, at £12.50 for the burger and chips I would suggest it is seriously overpriced and will not be ordering another. However we did still enjoy our evening overall.
