Lovely setting next to canal. Food excellent although two popular dishes were not available. Probably a busy day. Overall, a good experience.

Excellent food, ambiance and service. There are lots of nice restaurants in Reading but this one is quite special.Definitely worth a visit. A bit pricey.

What a fab place to stay in Reading! It has everything you need, from comfy bed, bar cocktails, outside canal-side seating to fabulous food and lovely staff. Boutique accommodation as it should be!

Stopped by for a pint and crisps. Very nice decor and atmosphere. Great set of paintings telling the story of Reading in the hall leading to the loos.Definitely visit again for a dining experience next time

We went for Sunday roast. We all had the beef one, which was amazing. Really good, probably one of the best I’ve tried. But my reason to probably come back is the tatin tarte… that was something else, it was outstanding… Really nice, can wait to eat it again

Chic atmosphere, on the river. Service was slow even on a Wed night, and 3 of us got "surprises" in our meals... Missing or alternate ingredients than listed without being warned. Tasty, but wouldn't go back.

Second time I've visited Bel and the Dragon and having had a great visit the first time I was disappointed today. We had a good welcome but things went downhill from there. We were sat in a banquette seating area which was most uncomfortable with the seats being set too far away from the table and not deep enough for an ample backside. Every time the people seated behind us moved we were rocked back and forth as if we were on the high seas!None of the party were enamoured by the starters on offer so we ordered some "nibbles", including some tartlets that were £1.50 each and the size of a thimble! I chose the rib eye steak but it was not worth the money (£28) more fat than meat and utterly tasteless. Service was attentive but a little intrusive with constant checks to see if we were ok. It would be enough to walk past the table to see if people need something rather than keep standing at the end of the table and interrupting the conversation to say "Is everything ok guys?". My final gripe was that they began to clear our mains plates away whilst one member of the group was still eating.I didn't raise any of the above with the management as it wasn't my booking so I cannot say how the restaurant would have dealt with my concerns. Next time my friends suggest meeting there I shall suggest going elsewhere. It's a shame as it's a lovely venue that's easy to access and has ample parking. With a few tweaks to the quality of food on offer, portion size or pricing and better trained staff it could be a really super dining experience.

They were extremely busy for the number of staff on. Service was incredibly slow and many mistakes were made, some items were entirely forgotten. The food was good, the fish was beautifully fresh and the vegetables al dente, if made very plain because they cannot adjust their recipes to cater to allergies. (That said, other dishes were also reported to be rather plain as well). Dessert was excellent. Not unreasonably priced but overall could do a lot better.

Amazing food and great service. The settings are lovely and i happened to work here as an entertainer for a couple's 40th which turned out to be a surprise wedding party! It is a great venue hire as they have a boat outside and the main resturant can easily be transformed into a dance floor!

Fantastic food, although i thought the trout starter was a little short on trout and a bit over powered by the fennel. Ale selection was poor too, but the neckoil on tap was good. The guinea fowl kiev was crunchy moist and delicious worked well with the sprouts. Loved it.
