Lovely old hotel with many original features. Friendly staff. Room was clean if slightly shabby as was the ensuite. Useful position amid the shops and a huge car park. Only downside was the trudge up tp our room. The place is huge and there were so many corridors and stairs to negotiate. We'd highly recommend The Bear butifyou have any mobility problems it's worth mentioning on booking

Super friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are a bit old and worn but everything was spotless, fresh sheets, fresh towels. Vegan options for breakfast are available.

Superb staff, Great food. We stayed here for the weekend and were pleasantly surprised. The reviews were not great but the experience certainly was.

Good bed, paper thin curtains, thread bear carpets, average food. Staff were polite and helpful. Whole place needs a massive refurb

Christmas Day Lunch with family - the food and service was excellent. Not rushed to leave, plenty of staff so all served together, get comedy value (the staff read us well!) - thank you for making the day with family so special!

May have just been unlucky but the plumbing in this hotel leaves much to be desired. Incredibly tight shower to switch off coupled with a bath plug without a chain left me with one of the most unpleasant showering incidents I have ever experienced. On the plus side the room was generally okay and the breakfast was of a very high standard but, boy, I will not forget that night in a hurry. The offer of a change of room came a bit too late to be appreciated.

Great hotel, what a lovely place to stay, all the staff were very friendly and welcoming, hotel well placed in the town with plenty of free parking behind.Everywhere very clean, from the dining area, toilets, corridors and room and ensuite. The dining room is set out well with lots of space in between tables as we now expect so everyone has a good amount of space between tables. We ate in, our evening meal was delicious, good menu choice and came nicely presented and lovely and hot. Blackberry and apple with custard pudding amazing have to say.Breakfast had a huge choice with continental or cooked breakfast, plenty of hot and cold drinks to help self to and self serve ourselves toast, white or brown bloomer. Again cooked food served lovely and hot to table. Our room is good size had a massive bed very comfy, great pillows, comfortable warm room. Plenty of storage space and hangers. Iron and ironing board. Easy to use TV, coffee or tea making stuff. Chair to use with dressing table.Bathroom with bodywash/shower gel provided and good thick white clean towels, had bath for me with plenty of hot water, and again plenty of hot water for my husband to shower afterwards.Only downside is the place is very tired looking and long overdue a revamp. Carpets very worn and fixtures and fittings tired and patched up and mis matched.Like our bathroom tiles, formica peeling at the edges and taps needing to be siliconed in as fittings have worn over time with use. This however has not stopped the hotel being very clean and usable and looked after as much as it can be with the normal wear and tear it has had thro use and it has been repaired, painted where they have been able to.GREEN KING INNS you need to step up here and show the Bear Hotel staff that you appreciate the care and the welcome they give to this place and its guests.Definitely want to come back.Thankyou we think you are a hidden gem.

The room was basic as we had 2 dogs with us, however, the room was large, clean and ok for our needs. What more than makes up for this is the food and staff. Very accommodating and helpful staff. Always pleased to help you. The food was excellent as was the service. Would definitely go back.

Very good location, good value for money, good choice of cooked breakfast. The room was spacious and quiet from outside apart from loud seagulls. The staff were very friendly and trying to resolve any issues.
