Just come home from the mainland and ravenous. Called into the Hare and Hounds and luckily they were happy to serve food even though it was late. The lovely Irish landlady could not have been more friendly! The food was ordered and served in record time. And was delicious. My husband ordered the sea bass risotto and I has the lamb pie. Both delicious. Would definitely recommend!

Mixed reviews…Arrived after my husband made a phone booking. We were shown to our table, but my mother had to go up and ask for children’s menus- (she was told to get it herself…).Ordered drinks, and the lady came with the tray of drinks and just dumped them on the end of our table for us to help ourselves (was a first…). The smaller and larger childrens meals were practically the same sized portions, and the smaller portion had more chips than the larger which we found odd. Toilets were just rundown, like no one cares.Positives- the male staff who served us food and puddings were very friendly and polite. The food was genuinely really nice, and really couldn’t fault it, so credit where it’s due.

Have read some mixed reviews on here but thought I would give it a go as staying near by! True the place is a little dirty, I had a squashed chip and bit of broccoli under my chair which I presume was from the last people but I have to say the staff were very friendly and the food was great, we didn’t have dessert as the meals were so big. Wide choice of meals for all the family and would definitely eat there again.

This place is amazing! We went here 7 years ago and was the best meal on the island. We returned 7 years later, exactly, and we were not disappointed. I only wish we had eaten here every day during our stay. All other places we had been the food was poor and very overpriced. This place, the staff are lovely and attentive. We had one particular waitress (wish I knew her name) she had dark short hair with an accent. She was lovely. To where my son wanted to give her a ten pound tip. The steak was cooked to perfection. The macaroni cheese with brie was full of flavour. The vegan fish and chips were lovely and the hunters chicken was amazing along with halloumi fries. There was nothing we could fault. I am fussy with my steaks as they never get cooked to medium, this was spot on. For a group of four, drinks two starters and 4 mains, all for ÂŁ70. That's a great price. This place is a must eat. We are all fussy and like different things, this place ticked all the boxes. Traditional on the inside, lovely ambience. Just lovely!!

Not covid secure, despite current rules. No staff wearing masks, I used to work in hospitality and table cleaning observed was less than I'd expect pre covid. Items not available from the menu but not informed until we ordered. Drink order wrong 2x. Only told there would be a minimum half hour wait for food after we ordered, apparently due to a large party but we didn't see any evidence of a large party unless they came on the bus! Bread with soup was soggy as if frozen. Over all disappointing, we had my elderly Father in Law with us and he was reluctant to go elsewhere or we would have left.

Sunday roast here was fantastic! Food was spot on and was cooked perfectly. Had the lamb and it was juicy and tender, the carrots were honey glazed and the roast potatoes were in beef dripping. Everything was just right and the pub itself is lovely with a play area for little ones and a decent children's menu too.

I try to give fair honest reviews for people to read and plan visits to places I have been. I'm not sure I can honestly review the Hare & Hounds positively without being all negative but also trying to keep it short. The positive is the environment/ building is beautiful. The front of house staff are very friendly. The negatives I don't think I could ever put into words but what a shame. The only way that lovely looking pub will or has stayed open is the fact the constant flow of new punters driving past on holiday. We waited 1 hour 30 for starters which items didn't match the menu (also alot of the menu was missing). The mains took over 2 hours to come and the food was shocking, mash potatoes we think was Smash but was cold and solidified. Microwaved vegetables but it was all like rubber. The list goes on even my 4 year old daughters pasta wasn't cooked it was still hard. People on other tables had the same experience. We had to ask after 2 hours how long the food would be with a restless/ hungry child waiting we was going to just settle the bill and walk out ( which we have never done). The front of house staff you could see had no morale and had been broken I don't know how they could greet people with a smile knowing what every customer walking through that door will be disappointed and left dissatisfied. What ever is happening behind the scene's it clearly shows if Gordon Ramsey walked in he would say "shut the place". I'm trying to keep this review short but we have had soo much bad in one meal I can't fit it all in. What I will say is my wife deals in customer care and she spoke to the manager and we settled what the final bill would be but the whole family was left completely let down and what a complete anticlimax it was to a fantastic trip to the Isle of Wight. What a shame it was our final meal with family on our final night (absolutely gutted). What I will say is I hope more people write reviews on places like this, which will hopefully help improve venues because it would be a shame to see another fantastic building go to waste and people loose jobs when it shuts.I very much hope to see this place improve but it will need a complete staff overhaul.

Pretty awful. They forgot to bring our starters, after a 30 minute wait, just bought the mains. The mains were over cooked and tough. It was very difficult to get service although it wasn't busy.I was given a 20% discount but it was still far from a good meal. The menus were covered in dirt, one even had a footprint on it. They clearly hadn't been cleaned in some time. This at the height of the pandemic.
