Best Indian restaurant for a sit down meal the whole meal was delicious and the staff so polite and helpful ,the curry and side dishes tasted so fresh,I had a chicken murg makhani,had never heard of it before,but since then have had a couple of takeaways and now I won't order anything else,it's fairly expensive too eat there,but it's worth it

Stayed at Lewes on a business trip, a colleague was running late and was hungry so decided to see if we could pop into Chaula's for a meal. Upon entry the lady at the front desk was polite but informed us they only had 45 minutes until closing, which was fine. However, unfortunately the gentleman serving us was very abrupt and rude and clearly wanted us ordered, served and out of there as quickly as he possibly could. He virutally hounded my colleague into her order & was (I beleive) cursing and sighing in his native tongue as she took a little while to decided what to order. The food was decent but nothing outstanding, I guess it did arrive very quickly however! Poor experience.

Chaulas in Lewes is my favourite Indian restaurant, having spent a year in India I find their food is the most authentic and have returned back to Chaulas many times! As a vegetarian I particularly like the Mushroom Sabji and vegetarian Jalfrezi. The masala popadoms are also the best. Lovely welcoming people, highly recommended

Nice vegetarian food. Portions small but tasty. Weird B&Q homemade partitions between some tables. Daughter loved the food

We were visiting our daughter near Lewes and staying in a hotel nearby. We called in ostensibly to book a table. The lady at the desk barred at us, WHERE'S YOUR MASK. We are both exempt for medical reasons but she appeared uninformed as to the legislation and that she was risking a fine for intimidation and discrimination. I told her we would just order a takeaway instead. We didn't want Amy more hostility. I called back after 30 minutes to collect it. Sorry I did because the food was as hostile to our stomachs as her attitude on arrival. Does she want to deter customers by imposing the government's draconian rules on them or stay in business.

I absolutely love Chaula's! The food is always so fresh and vibrant and feels so much more authentic than typical Indian Restaurants. Their vegetarian dishes are as good as good, if not better than many of their meat dishes because they are more traditional. None of the dishes have that floating-in-ghee look or taste that is common elsewhere which is brilliant. They make delicious Lassi too!The staff are always friendly and polite, even when it's clearly a busy night. I can't wait to be able to eat in the restaurant again!

Booked a table about 45 mins before we turned up and they very kindly accommodated our party of 7. The food was delicious and fresh, and love that they make nimbu paani (fresh-squeezed lime soda) and lassi. A really reasonably priced place that also sells some of its spices and curries to go/ stock in the freezer. Only removed a star because some of the staff were a bit blunt/ terse on occasion, which I suppose was because they were full.

We had an absolutely brilliant meal here. The service was incredibly helpful and attentive with all aspects of the menu.We had 2 starters, 2 mains, 1 rice and 1 naan and left very satisfied and full. All was cooked very well and the flavours were delicious.There was a great selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes, all labelled on the menu, and the staff were very helpful with any questions we had about the cooking of the dishes. Couldn't recommend more for a lovely meal!

The food was average at best. No real flavour or spice to either of the dishes. Additionally, the waitress spilled a tray of beers on the customers next to us which was actually quite entertaining. Waitresses/waiters were nice. Food is average/below average. That being said, You can ask for added spices and they would be happy to accommodate
