South Street Fish Bar in Lewes

Not my fav, shopped for a neighbour, pleasant staff, the chips are okay!

We visited at around 8.45pm and the fish bar was cooking to order, which was fair enough. There were lots of staff working. We counted six. They were friendly and polite. I was really disappointed though that both my cod and chips were undercooked. Both could have done with longer in the fryer at a time when they were not busy. It's a shame because I've had really good chips from them before.

Over priced, fish was bland soggy chips. Hoped for better by the sea. Wouldn't recommend.

Delicious fish and chips, very decent portion and value for money.

Nice staff, didn't wait long. Lovely chips, nice big portion, a bonus point for having pickled onion vinegar in a squeezy on the counter. Curry sauce was just right - not too globby or over-watery. Spring roll nice and crispy but not hot enough inside - otherwise would have been 5 stars.

I do not normally write reviews but i have been saying for a year now that i must write this Chip shop a glowing review, and here it is.I have like everyone else gone to a chippy and had a mixture of differently cooked chips everytime I visit, they are either okay, soggy or over cooked. But since i moved to Uckfield me and my partner found this little gem of a chippy tucked away at the back of Lewes one night. Ever since visiting i make sure we only get our fish and chips from this store we always make the special journey to use them.The food is consistently perfectly cooked and we have never had an over/undercooked chip or any other food from there. I literally can't believe how consistent it is i always pause at the start of the meal and say "I must write a review" To add the staff are always friendly quick and always smiling and i have never had a bad experience. I really cannot fault them. Thank you for the great food.

Very clean compared to other chippies in the area, their food is also superior to the others. I would recommend this chip shop to anyone who visits for the day, the only con is that it's take away only. Sometimes they can forget items from your order so just double check before you leave.

Since the Old boy left it to his son to run the fish and chips went down hill fast so much so I as did my friends stopped going there, the problem was this the chips got soggy the batter was slimy inside and the fish was grey not white. It was so bad at the time I put a message of total disgust on Facebook. Then November 2014 last year we heard it had been taken over by new people, so we gave it another go and what do you know it is now excellent value for money and the food is back to very high standard I would recommend South Street to anyone again.
