The Bull in Lewes

Came for lunch. 3.5 stars / 5. Solid pub food, generous portions. Would love to see a slightly wider beer selection. But lovely staff and quick tasty food.

Absolutely fantastic. Loved our visit. Beautiful traditional British pub in a gorgeous rural village. Great choice of food and wines and all the staff were so polite and attentive. We totally enjoyed every minute, and every mouthful! First class.

Great traditional pub in Newick with considerably better than average food. I stayed a week so tried everything. I particularly recommend starting with the meat platter and then the Chicken breast stuffed with Brie and spinach.

Had pleasant drinks and food order taken outside...but...nobody came to get us for our meal so we went to table and told them! Asked for wine list no one came to take order...food began to arrive in stages (there were 5 of us) asked again to take wine order...and again...we tried to eat slowly as no wine arrived,finally one of us went to bar to ask was met with 'well you can see we're busy' ...wine arrived when we had eaten all but a couple of bites...sent it back unopened.Shame as food was excellent, service let the kitchen down.

The three stars are for the food - which was very good. The menu seems much reduced compared to years gone by. What did let the place down was the poor level of service. Staff were young and not that interested in providing anything like an acceptable level of table service. Innattentive, poor awareness, no eye-contact and lacklustre would be the good points. There was no manager to be seen conducting and overseeing the service. An excellent building let down by an amateurish set-up. It seems the place appears to be run on a shoestring, with staff more interested in gossiping to one another or dancing to the 'music' than serving the customers. Another indication was that empty glasses were not removed from our table in a timely manner and cutlery not replaced between courses. A table outside had empty glasses on it when we arrived, they were still there 2 hours later when we left - and the place was not even busy! Seriously thinking twice about going there again. Poor show.

Very comfortable accommodation for a couple of nights while working away from home. Great hospitality and delicious food on the menu, good breakfast too.Nice village location.

Really lovely country pub! The food was great, the staff were friendly, the pub itself was really well decorated, loved the low ceiling. You do have to park around the back, but it's well signaled for qhere to go. Definitely recommend!

Very disappointing. what is a beautiful old English pub, is totally spoilt by poor quality tables and modern chairs. Zero charm. Poor quality food, arrived looking unappealing, microwaved, zero presentation. Loud inappropriate music, I heard someone ask if the staff could either change or turn off the music... only to be met by a disdainful look from a member of staff who frankly couldn't care less.The Bull deserves much much more.

Easter Saturday evening, all but empty, and now we know why. This beautiful historic village pub refurbished to look like a cafeteria inside with totally unsuitable furniture, removing the cosy, comfortable atmosphere.Served by children, we had the worst food we've eaten in a long while. Heavily overpriced, all pre prepared, dry and tasteless. If you like food don't eat here. Dreadful. Never again.

Very disappointed. I hadn't been for over 20 years so was looking forward to it. Minor point initially but the furniture seemed out of place: modern style in an old style. One wine glass was not properly clean and whilst drinking a Diet Coke I noticed my glass had lipstick on it which I particularly dislike! The staff member apologised but didn't seem to think that it was that big a thing. Food was OK but microwaved. Staff were amenable but very young and lacked support. The establishment needed a mature, experienced manager to oversee things and provide gravitas.
