Called here for lunch. The sandwich was good and the coffee excellent. It was busy with a pleasant atmosphere. There is seating out front for sunnier days which offers the opportunity to take in Lewes at ease.

Lovely evening meal. Our well behaved little pug also got a pleasant welcome and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Staff were friendly and efficient!

As a Brighton resident, it is certainly worth the journey to Lewes to visit this pub. Especially on a Sunday for the sublime roast. Pork belly cooked to perfection and lovely mix of veg, all nice and crunchy. Friendly staff and great atmos make it worth the trip, and guilty pleasures disappear if you make the most of great walks close by to earn the feast.

We caught the end of the service on the Sunday but they still took our order for what they had left over. The staff were really friendly & helpful. We would definitely go back when we go back to Lewes.

Excellent service with a smike and a laugh. Ordered 4 tapas for two of us, 3 would have been more than enough. Chorizo was standout. Definitely will be back.

This was our first visit to this pub, with friends who had visited several times before. An interesting old fashioned pub with a restaurant area and an outside rooftop area with a view towards the castle. We all had lunch, tasty sandwiches which came with coleslaw and rocket. Service was prompt and the staff were friendly. There was plenty of seating available and whilst not busy there were sufficient other customers to generate a good ambience. We would happily come here again.

We each ordered pan fried lamb rump, absolutely delicious, cooked perfect, ingredients worked really well. Good selection of beers, wines etc, good service and good value. I recommend.

Sometimes you want an extra star for a place that is just that bit, well, extra.Eating out with a Coeliac is always a challenge but as soon as he asked for a gluten free menu the waitress asked him if he was Coeliac. She was utterly familiar with the menu, knew what he could and couldn't eat, confirmed about cross contamination and really knew what she was talking about. All the staff we encountered had the right balance of friendly, professional and attentive.There was a pleasant ambiance and we were served promptly.The food was sublime, truly beautifully cooked, good sized portions and perfectly seasoned. I would totally recommend without hesitation and we will definitely come back.

Good beer, bad service, bad food – recommend avoiding and going to one of the many better pubs in Lewes instead. Details of our experience below...We had high hopes for this pub and booked in advance for a Friday night dinner / session. We were shown to a cosy but uncomfortable booth by the bar on arrival. The table had dirty glasses on it which had to be cleared away while we waited. We then ordered three beers which took over ten minutes to arrive and when they did, we asked the waiter if we could order some starters – to which he responded “I’ve got some stuff do so just ask one of the others instead”.Once we recovered from the shock, we dutifully did as instructed and ordered the starters (seafood croquettes and calamari) from another member of staff. They arrived promptly – but were greasy and tasted like they’d been microwaved. The beers on the other hand weren’t bad.The chaos around the bar continued to unfold as more punters arrived. Staff members were inefficiently running around, contradicting each other to customers about availability of tables etc. We cut our losses and went to a different pub round the corner for our main meal instead (see separate review) where the service was made to look effortlessly easy by comparison.
