The White Horse Pub in Lewes

This hotel is shockingly terrible. The reviews it’s already gotten should prime you to it not being great, but even despite the low expectations, I was appalled at how disgusting it was. The bathroom had black mould growing in the corners; the shower didn’t work, the bath leaked, there were bugs near the sink, the water glasses were dirty, the wallpaper was peeling, there were thick cobwebs by the windows, the carpets had come apart, there was filth and dust all over the floor, the mattress was broken, and the bed was sloping and noisy.

Okay stay, had some good elements and bad parts. The hotel is very historic but not all the mod cons are properly fitted or displayed well - for instance our room only had two plugs far away from the bed, the tv didn’t work, and the toilet’s flush was right by the ceiling above the sink mirror. You get a continental breakfast and the pastries aren’t great but the view from the conservatory is very grand and lovely. Overall would stay again given the location, price, and the nicer elements they had within - just don’t go in with high standards.

It's a nice old building for a hotel and it's got that nice old smell to it with an open log fire it could be better on the cleaning side of things but the house keeping side of it is good we try to keep on top of things but not easy when there's not many of us.

We checked in and then we checked out. It is clear to see that this place is very run down. When we checked out we were asked what was wrong with our room. I think the staff and the owners need to simply open their eyes!In our room was three windows, only two had curtains, dust everywhere, dirty bed sheet on the top of the wardrobe, threadbare carpet, bathroom needs a lot of attention.The rest of the hotel there was unnecessary rubbish/clutter stuffed within in full view making it visibly untidy.The spa, well what do is say…. Vile! Clutter, broken glass hand rails, broken sauna with damage wood inside, mouldy/smelly steam room, cold swimming pool with random stones in the bottom. Even the gym equipment had rust on it. Changing “rooms” were laughable and not fit for privacy. Simply disgusting, needless to say we didn’t use the spa. This review is actually quite reserved and polite. Went and stayed in a nice B and B.

The White Hart Hotel, Lewes, is an historic coaching Inn with Tudor origins right in the centre of Lewes, the County town of East Sussex. Its obviously an old hotel and its lower end price range. It's a good location for anyone wanting to visit Lewes. Don't expect the 5 star ritz Hotel quality as the place is very old and low end price range. You get what you pay for. Our room was clean and tidy. Decent bed that comfy and big enough for two. We had tea and coffee with provided kettle. TV in the room and clothes storage. Lovely view of Lewes from our window. Breakfast is continental and does the job, OK coffee but don't expect a full English. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Dog friendly hotel. Gym and swimming pool is a nice addition and kept clean. Parking at the rear of the hotel. We would stay here again no problem.

Absolutely rotten place to stay. Cobwebs everywhere and found pubes within the bedding too. I was also freezing in the night during my stay

We popped in here on a cold Saturday afternoon. The log fire was ablaze and the hotel was decorated for Christmas. We had a hot drink and a toasted teacake and it was lovely. The service was excellent and it was good value. A lovely thing to do on a dark winter's afternoon.

The swimming pool and spa area were nice but need a referb. The very lonely member of staff was kind and courteous, from check in to barman and showing us the spa area. Our room was ok, i tripped over the step of the bathroom three times.The matress on the bed had springs gone and on closer inspection was covered in blood. This hotel could be a gorgeous relaxing place to stay if only it were updated a little.

Absolutely avoid, see photos then read my honest review. Me and my friend visited Lewes on a weekend 23rd - 24th October 2021 having the twin room in the 'annex' at the back, second floor. The reception seemed ok fairly old I thought was 'rustic charm' one man on reception. Checked in and was explained how to get to room via the path under the building to car park.This is where problems start, pigeons nesting on ventilation and pipe work swooping and leaving mess when 'guests' access their rooms. Getting to the room, we see the BT Broadband Hub dangling from the wall with another hacked together extender, an upturned plastic food box appears to be screwed to the wall to cover the sockets from misuse, why not use 'blanks'?In the room, first issue is check the bathroom, floor tiles are loose, the toilet cistern is not attached when you flush the mechanism pulls the lid! The radiator below the towel radiator is solid rusty, the corners of the bath tub have cracked and black mould. The sink mirror has rust, wear on outer edges the sink was not 100% clean either! The bed sunk in the middle was very poor limp pillows (refer to another review from another guest for pillow horrors which I am glad I saw after!) the lamps above the wall where bent and without shades. There was some strange board behind the behind bed board which appeared stained / damaged.The window, seemed like they had a flood as the paper is peeling and timber framing falling off, spiders webs around window indicate lack of cleaning in the most basic sense.After this avoided the breakfast and lounge can you imagine how the kitchen is given this? The place needs to be closed and refurbished, not only from appearance but also hygiene, staff need to be trained how to clean and there needs to be maintenance and checks (beds, lights, pillows, fixtures and fittings)Cannot give a zero but this is my honest review

The hotel room really needed a refurbishment. It was tired looking. Scratched paintwork. Damaged wallpaper. Stained carpet. Pillows looked old and were flat. The bathroom also needed upgrading. Shower was really pathetic. Also no cooked breakfast. Cereal, toast, yoghurt, croissants.
