The Snowdrop Inn in Mid Sussex

A beautiful spring day, out for a long country walk with my daughter & her partner Craig. I understand now, having read about oasis', what a sight they must have been for the desert travellers with parched throats. Such is the appeal of finding a good old British pub on a hot day & The Snowdrop was an exceptional "oasis.We sat outside to soak up the sunshine & watched the world go by & quickly were able to order our cool beers to sate our thirsts together with the obligatory bag of crisps. This was truly the epitomy of every English persons dream so after being handed the lunch menu we decided to order something to satisfy our hunger.We were not disappointed, not only did we get rid of our lunchtime hunger but our evening meal too, such were the portions we had. But quantity did not override quality, because it was top-notch. I had a ploughman's, (of course, you have to don't you), my daughter Spring's smoked salmon with cream cheese & was served quickly by the very friendly & helpful staff.So, an hour & half after our arrival we continued our ramble through the Sussex countryside feeling at peace with the world, so should life like this be the norm for everyone.

Food is subjective, what I like you may not and visa versa.Four of us had lunch here, we all had the ploughman's of differing mix's.Plates of a variety of chips were also added including cheesy, plain and Halloumi. The ploughman's were all served on slates something I'm not particularly keen on, what's wrong with a plate?The sour dough roll was great crispy on the outside and still warm the accompanying salad was nice as was the two slices of apple and four grapes. I had the home made pork pie and cheese offering, the pie was very odd.The pastry was not crisp and the wide open spaces inside were just that. The "meat" inside had the appearance of a solidified herbed paste, neither myself or my partner liked the taste of the pie. The three cheeses were ok but totally forgetable taste wise. There was an onion chutney which was very tasty and some home made? mustard pickle that was less so. My last gripe was the butter, two pats, foil wrapped and as hard as concrete. They were still hard when we left........Service was very good and the time for food to arrive at table was also very good. A nearby table had cod and chips and that did look spot on.To sum up. Whilst not sampling much of the menu, what we had was just about ok at best. My advice to the Snowdrop on the pork pies, do the customers a favour and get some from a local butcher.The highlight of the visit was the service which shone though!Total cost for four adults with three soft drinks a pint £79.00.

We went here for the second time and it was great food, Yorkshire puddings were a bit over cooked but great flavour nonetheless. The sides were also tasty, cauliflower cheese is a must! The roast beef was tender and juicy still even without gravy. I could tell it was a good quality place as the horseradish was really good and hot. Staff were really good, very tentative and friendly. £200 including tip for 6 people, 4 g&t's, 5 roasts, 1 fish & chips, espresso martini and a medium glass of red wine ,pretty decent if you ask me. P.s didn't take pictures as the food was so delicious I forgot.

Great location and friendly staff. Food was amazing, especially the sticky toffee pudding, home made and the best I've ever eaten! 100% recommend a visit.

Excellent food and good atmosphere as a lunchtime venue for a catch up with an old friend. Service was extremely friendly and helpful too particularly for gluten free options of which there are many.

I went for a Sunday Roast (around 230pm) with a small group. Whilst the service was good, friendly and quick, the food was average, unfortunately. We all felt the vegetables were particularly bland and flavourless. The temperature of the whole dish wasn't that hot either. The pork belly was tasty in all honesty and then one of the group had the beef, which wasn't the best of cuts. Overall, I was relatively disappointed

Lovely pub, great food and friendly staff. I've been twice now and will definitely be going again.

Went for supper this evening. Really delicious, home-cooked food with a varied, seasonal menu & options to cater for all tastes & dietary needs. The staff were delightful & made us feel really welcome. We will be back when we're next in the area. Highly recommended.

Staff were really friendly, attentive and helpful. I'll forgive them for serving my food on a slate (what's wrong with a plate?) as my main course was delicious albeit a bit pricey. The Eton Mess was nice but again, a bit pricey. All-in-all we enjoyed our lunch and will definitely be going back again. Hopefully the slates will have gone by then.... they are SO yesterday! Lol 😂 Thanks guys 👍
