The Penny Black in Mole Valley

Cannot fault this place. The food is excellent, the drinks delicious (more on this later) the staff friendly and welcoming and the venue is pleasant.Its my go to place for a lunch time "meeting" with colleagues. Situated down at the bottom of Leatherhead High Street its a lovely little building with a decent covered outside sitting area which is great in warm weather.Their burgers are fantastic but ensure you turn up hungry as the portion control will not leave you wanting. They also serve a decent selection of ales etc im particularly partial to "Proper Job Cornish IPA" And this is one of the few pubs I've visited that serve it.Ordering online via their app is easy. The app isn't the best but they're always quick to serve and friendly and it makes your and their lives easier I guess. Prices are very reasonable.Highly recommended.

We came for a Sunday Roast and found the staff very friendly and accommodating. The football was on and it was a lovely atmosphere (not hectic). Although our roasts came out cold they were very quick to rectify this and even gave us a round of drinks. We did however find the portions a bit small. I would go back again as it’s a nice pub.

Always a great pub to go to for football - food is excellent and good selection of drink. Staff are friendly and there is a good amount of seating outside. Inside can get a little crowded but not a major issue.

What a fantastic lively pub, staff are excellent, you can get some great food and the beer is well looked after. Definitely worth a visit.

Last visited in 2019- 2 Stars. Had a drink but left without having our food order as the chef failed to turn up. We were asked for our details and was promised a voucher for our next visit. Never arrived. However today (23JAN2022) we are going to try again (irrespective of voucher) as we have heard good things. I will update this later after our visit.Update (24JAN2022) - We went for lunch yesterday, originally two of us but bumped into a friend with their parents-in-law and invited them to join us which they did. Luckily there was space as it was busy but not overly so.We had an excellent lunch with a good relaxed atmosphere in the pub. The Youngs Special (Bitter) was probably the best pint I have had in years, So I had two! They were busy but it all just worked and the service was good, friendly and helpful.I have no hesitation in recommending this place and next time we are in Leatherhead we will eat there again. Our unplanned additional guests very much enjoyed there lunch too and would recommend it.Give it a go for good honest pub food, we did and it was really rather good. Thank you! Until next time.....

I had a leaving do from work here. Reserved the mezzanine area and had a buffet. Staff were welcoming and friendly, super helpful, great to have our own area, food was great, fabulous mini burgers, delicious sausage rolls, great chips. In the rest of the pub the atmosphere was great, plenty of people out on a Monday. And importantly it was clean with lovely loos 😀

Marvelous evening with great music and old friends. Superb service from a pub I don't frequent. They gave me a takeaway cup so I could decant my beer and take home. Unfortunately, had to put some of that down the drain when the cab arrived.

At the Penny you can get a great burgers from their Burger shack in the garden or the kitchen. Formerly the Post Office, the appropriately named Penny Black in recognition of its heritage, is a grand period building with a courtyard garden right in the centre of Leatherhead town. We have a variety of spaces which suit drinks functions and buffets of various sizes. They have live music every last saturday of the month without fail.
