When I booked for afternoon tea I mentioned that I would have our elderly Labrador with us and, as dogs are not allowed in the restaurant, I expected our party of four to be seated in the conservatory or garden. The afternoon was sunny but a little breezy, and on arrival we found a table prepared for us in the restaurant next to an open french window with a lovely view of the garden. To our amazement immediately outside on the terrace was a comfortable dog bed and a bowl of water! Our dog has never been so pampered at a restaurant, and did not move from that bed all afternoon. What exemplary service! We all had a wonderful afternoon.

Second time we have eaten evening dinner at Monty's.It's was luvly with fresh veg and tasty sauces. The waiters were friendly, attentive and a credit to the hotel. The hotel itself is such a beautiful building in a beautiful spot. Thanku so much for a luvly evening. We will definitely be back. Keep up the good work.

Looks so inviting and when you walk in the door you get a warm welcome. We only stopped for a light lunch and whilst it was fine, for £16 the ploughman's by way of example lacked imagination. Just a couple of lettuce leaves, tomatos, cucumber etc

When I made the room reservation at this 4 star hotel I was asked if I would like to make a reservation for dinner. I said I would and was then asked if we would like to eat at their pub which had a casual atmosphere or the more formal dining room. I asked for the pub option and was told the reservation would be made. On arrival I asked what time I had made it for as I couldn't remember if it was 7:15 or 7:30 and was told that there was no reservation. I was treated as though I had not made a reservation and was now trying to remedy it by blaming the staff member who had made the room reservation. I pointed out that I would not have known that there were two options if I hadn't been making the reservation but this was ignored. I was then told that that the pub was closed and the dining room fully booked. Only after kicking up a big fuss was I offered dinner in the lounge which was obviously not ideal but better than no dinner at all. They eventually seated us in the dining room and we had a truly excellent dinner. What really annoyed me was that they had obviously decided to close the pub but hadn't bothered to inform guests who had reservations and then to make it worse tried to make out that it was the guest's fault. Not the way I would expect to be treated at a hotel with a 4 star rating. I will never visit this establishment again which is a great pity as the food served was excellent.

This is the best hotel that i have stayed in within the UK and i have stayed at a few in most big cities. The service and rooms was excellent. All staff where attentive and the hotel rooms where spotless. The gardens outside where beautiful.

Visited many times now, a dependable relaxed bolt hole. Restaurant for lunch & dinner excellent, breakfast too. Pleasant staff. The deluxe rooms offer more space. Plenty of parking at the rear. Pool available at their sister property nearby!

Fantastic venue for a wedding recently attended. The rooms are beautiful with comfortable beds and seating.Staff were excellent and the food was great, especially the sausages at breakfast.Would stay again.

Was looking forward to a quick bite here and were quite disappointed. Three of us went and two were less than impressed. Food portions were tiny. I had the welsh raebit which was thinly spread on a piece of bread the size of a cream cracker. Was tasteless too although presented nicely. The other person had soup which was bland and best bit was there was no bread or roll to accompany it. We realized after that there was bread on the menu at £4 a slice. !!Dont they say you get what you pay for.. well we surely didn't.I'm local and wont be going back or recommending. We usually eat in Beaulieu high st and always enjoy ourselves. Everywhere was full so treated ourselves to Monty's or so we thought .Not great

Absolutely shocking service for a hotel if this standard. Phoned to book afternoon tea in the morning for same afternoon - given verbal confirmation of the booking. My mum travelled over from the Isle of Wight and we got to hotel and was told they had no booking. Told it was probably at their sister hotel (which is ridiculous as I booked via the non central telephone number on their website). I called the same number back and they checked their sister hotel for reservations, but nothing made there either. Cross doesn’t begin to describe the poor service. Avoid.

Booked in for a birthday Sunday lunch and expected a wow experience with the food considering a named chef leading the kitchen (Matthew Whitfield). Oh dear. Food was ok for a pub experience but the Montagu gives the impression of being more. Staff seemed overwhelmed (and we overheard that a number have moved on). Location is very nice but you don’t come to eat the garden so I’m sorry to say I wouldn’t make the effort to return.
