The Railway in New Forest

We stopped by for lunch after a walk in the New Forest. We were really impressed with the efficiency of the service, the food and the general cleanliness of the restaurant and toilets, the theme of the hotel was well done too. Would recommend.

Looked forward to our first meal in the refurbished Railway Hotel. Poor selection of beer/larger (no Guinness on tap) Menu selection poor. Three steak and mushroom pies, one Haddock and chips and one sausage and chips ordered. Steak pie nice and wholesome, but disappointingly portions varied in size, one small? Haddock very small, batter white NOT golden, triple cooked chips were the size of roast potatoes! Sausage was over cooked making very dry. Service continuity poor. Manager ask if all ok, we highlighted disappointment with fish and sausage meals and received ABSOLUTELY NO RESPONSE- NO APOLOGY- NOTHING! Bill arrived, didn’t like cheeky service charge being included in total, should be shown under main meal bill, along with optional wording. It may be titled the Railway Hotel, but food is average PUB GRUB, very expensive prices and average service. Will not be visiting again!!

I had a fabulous Sunday roast. Everything was cooked to perfection. Even had room for a cheeky pudding - yum yum. Staff very attentive and the dining cart was decorated brilliantly. I won't hesitate to visit again if back in the area.

Good ambience, very friendly staff. Delicious starters and puddings - roast beef rather overdone, but that is personal taste. Will definitely return.

Was very impressed with the Railway hotel.The interior was impressive and the food was excellent.We went there for my grand daughters 21st birthday lunch and everybody had an excellent word for the whole visit We will certainly be returning

We booked a Christmas meal with our neighbours and it was a totally pleasant experience from start to finish. The booking (for 14 of us) was straightforward and Diana took the trouble to ensure that one of our party had a veggie meal she liked, even though it wasn’t on the menu.When we arrived, we were made welcome and our 2 tables were arranged in the bar as discussed so we could be together. The food arrived very quickly and was amazing. We had Christmas crackers, the service was first class, so we had a wonderful evening which set us up for the season ahead, despite all the doom and gloom around!! Thank you all at the Railway and have a Merry Christmas!

We had our group Christmas Meal which is never easy to organise however the team here helped with the organisation of the food by a comprehensive list of which members had ordered which food, which is a plus in my books. Also the cleanliness was spot on. The decor was superb! Most importantly I had the turkey dinner and the gravy was the best gravy I had ever had! Yorkshire pudding was perfect and lovely big serving 😊

Sunday roast review. Staff made us feel welcome from the very start, despite not having a table reservation. Service was prompt and food came quickly. The food was piping hot and beautifully cooked. We were really impressed that staff spoke kindly to guests AND other staff members. The staff were attentive but not intrusive. We’ll be back!

Absolutely brilliant meals which were 5* quality and excellent value, in a scrupulously clean, well designed theme of railway carriages from the 'golden age of steam'. Staff were charming too.

We stayed in the pullman as we took our spaniel .Easy access to car park for walking dog. Lovely and clean and staff very helpful especially Lorraine. Breakfast very nice plenty of choices. Only complaint there was 2 lots of dog poo by our door on artificial grass. Would recommend hotel.
