Lovely place, friendly staff ,good food

Staff were rude and room was old and falling apart. Bathroom and roof was covered in mould and the shower and heating in the room were broken. the place was very loud as is above a bar and sound travels! manager was very rude when I had a genuine question about requesting a credit or refund or even just a free meal as I was not able to get to the hotel for one night due to treacherous storm over the UK that had all trains and buses cancelled with all travel halted. He just kept smiling and telling me it was not his problem. The room was empty that night i was not there and I was required to pay out for another hotel in the city I was previously stuck in. Staff were not present and I waited at reception for 30 min before getting any service.

Decent Indian food and able to cater for large groups. Friendly staff, nice bar area with decent space and no long waits.

It's a tired hotel and does need a lick of paint. The shower holder that holds the head was broken so showering with one hand was a bit of a problem.The Indian restaurant below serves a great curry but found out the next day we could of had 10% knocked of the bill, if we told the staff we were staying, unfortunately the management did not tell us this upon arrival.Breakfast is a standard fry up or a choice of various scrambled egg with avacado or salmon on toastAll in all, a cheap hotel in quite a good location to Oxford, you pay for what you get. If your not to fussy on decour or comforts this is for you.

The carpets were dusty and dirty the room was very cold . Slept poorly due to a buzzing noise that was going off all through the night. Staff were very friendly and the area was beautiful more of a pub than a hotel

I was staying the night visiting family. Breakfast was included and l was told to come down at 7.30 as it was only served til 8.30. I got up early, there was no one at all downstairs. After 30mins l got a bit worried. There was no receptionist, no number to call, no lights on. I seemed to be alone in the building! I wandered around upstairs and found a room marked Private. So l knocked on it in desperation. I was sworn at and told to go away. No one came to the door and it's now an hour later. Horrid way to be treated as a guest far from home. Scarey and powerless. No idea what to do about it. Sitting on my bed, not a soul around. No staff. No one

Good location, easy taxi ride into the city and plenty of parking. Big open bar with beer garden and well kept real ales (two on tap). It's a big old pub which I guess is costly to maintain and probably not able to survive as just a pub nowadays. There is an Indian restaurant at the front, though we didn't try as we were out past the closing time of 9pm. Rooms are big with clean and comfy beds and adequate bathroom. Ceiling wallpaper coming away in places and re-constituted bacon for breakfast knocks a star off for me.

Our experience at The Tree at Iffley was laughable.We arrived on a Saturday around 3pm, to be told that only one of our two rooms were ready. This is fine as we could put our bags in one room and have a drink in the bar whilst we waited for the other room. The first room (room number 9) was actually quite nice. Lovely modern bathroom and a large room with a comfy bed. We went back down to the bar for a drink whilst we waited for room 6 to become available.A member of staff bought the room keys to us, then said that we had to be careful with the keys as these were the spare set, as the previous people that stayed in the room had taken the original set home with them…to Scotland! They were posting them back but they hadn’t arrived yet. Again, this was absolutely fine as we could keep room 6 keys in room 9 so we knew we wouldn’t lose them.We went out for the evening into Oxford City Centre, and returned back to the hotel just before 11pm. We were asked to leave our breakfast cards on reception ready for the next day so they could prepare it ready. There wasn’t much of a choice of breakfast items, but for the price of the room we expected this. On the breakfast card, we were asked to state what time we wanted breakfast. Choices were 8:30, 8:45, 9:00 or 9:15. We went for 9:15 (see later in the review as to why this has been mentioned!)We went up to our rooms and the then discovered the full extent of room 6! Firstly, the door was open which we thought was unusual, but figured staff had left it open after cleaning. Once we were in the room we noticed it wasn’t shut as the lock had actually come out of the door as the wood was rotten! Wallpaper was hanging off the ceiling, the curtains were coming off the rails, mouldy carpet in the corner, random newspaper cutting taped to the wall, broken radiator, shower head which was held together by tape, and the room smelled very stale and damp.A member of staff came up to the room with a screwdriver to put the lock back in the door, so at least it shut overnight. However, it soon fell back off the next morning when we opened the door!I think the bed was broken as it when you lay on the mattress, it went into a V shape and we both rolled to the middle of the bed!In the morning we went down to breakfast at 9:15 as we stated. We were met by a member of staff who said “You only have 10 minutes for breakfast, we stop serving at 9:30”. We were a bit taken aback as we had already pre-ordered our food and the time we would be down! The cereal station included different cereals along with apple juice and orange juice. There was also a jug of milk for hot drinks and the cereal. A member of our party poured some of the milk into her tea and it was mouldy and very lumpy! When our food arrived (full English, poached egg and avocado on toast, and a beans on toast) it was very bland and beige!Overall, this has to be one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at, and will definitely not be returning until improvements are made.

Room was a bit dirty with undusted cabinets and stains on some bed covers. The floor looked like it hadn’t been cleaned and there was a half drunken bottle of water in the room with two other full bottles. The bar menu online was a disappointment as the menu we received at the bar was completely different. Breakfast was a little disappointing too as only cereal was available with little cooked breakfast offered.Staff were almost absent during the time we were there. Overall an alright place but don’t think we shall be returning.
