The Red Lion in Oxford

Good atmosphere? Friendly service but food not worth the money asked for. Dry bread on starter that was very dry itself, cold and uninspiring. Tasty belly pork roast main with raw root vegetables and cold soggy Yorkshire pudding but a very tasty gravy. Cauliflower cheese extra was pink which I couldn't quite tell why!

After our last visit, I was expecting big things from the Red Lion’s Sunday lunch, and I was beyond disappointed. We ordered the trio of roasts which we had been looking at since the last time we went there and it wasn’t available. At first glance I thought wow this looks great… and then I took a bite. Unfortunately beyond not having the wow factor we had experienced last time, this food was barely edible. One of the Yorkshire puddings was burned and the other one tasted like barbecue. The roast potatoes were soggy and tasted oddly like cheese. The Dauphinois was practically raw and tasted powerfully of onions. Much of the meat was fatty, chewy, or unappealing. The only redeeming quality was the crackling and the veg, which were fine. The waitress kindly comped some of the food and gave us a free dessert, but nonetheless none of this food should have been served to customers in the first place. Avoid at all costs.

Recently refurbished and refreshed menu. Date night experience was amazing with the help from Nell who was ever diligent with my allergies and made sure everything I ordered was safe for me to eat and she made sure we had everything we needed. Food was amazing, vibe was great and decor was stylish 10/10

Such a great place. We were visiting on holiday and can highly recommend this place. We had the pork belly sharer which was so good! Special mention to Nell who was really helpful and answered all my questions! Also best toilets I’ve ever been in at a restaurant!

Food was absolutely beautiful, although pricey most definitely worth the money the service is amazing and they really take a attention to detail to the next level, greeted by friendly accommodating staff , the quality of everything they do is just stunning. Would definitely recommend.

My husband and I had the most lovely three course meal here last night. Every aspect of the meal was delicious and the service was incredibly well judged: attentive but not intrusive. A job well done by all involved, thank you!

Came for dinner with my husband, food was delicious and service was quick and professional. Staff were friendly and accommodating, especially our lovely waitress Nell - chatty and charismatic with good communication! Facilities were also lovely. An amazing experience, would definitely return

My husband and I were absolutely blown off our feet when we visited the red lion last night: the atmosphere was calm and the service was astonishing- so good on all accounts that I asked our waitress Nell for everyone’s name so I could thank them personally as it was difficult to catch everyone last night so thank-you so much Alice, Olivia, Scarlett, Sandra and especially Nell (those little touches of excellence and personal service did not go unnoticed!). My only regret is not asking for the chefs’ names as the food was above and beyond our expectations as well..

Came here for Sunday lunch with a friend. We both had a roast dinner . The service was a little slower than we had initially expected but when it arrived the food was delicious and the portion sizes were very generous! We were served by a waitress who my friend believes was called 'Nel' who we were highly impressed by especially after hearing she is only 17 . We hope to come again when we return to the city in the summer!

It was great! Fantastic service... we booked a table for 18 and we all enjoyed the food and the facilities. They were very flexible with the booking. The food was delicious.
