The Standard in Oxford

Had a superb meal here with the family. The menu is relatively small and has some different dishes on it from your normal Indian restaurant.All the food that came out was amazing and each dish had its own unique flavours unlike many restaurants where all the food tastes the same and the sauces look the same.Service was also very friendly and efficient. I will definitely come back and highly recommend The Standard.

This is how curry should be. Every dish has a unique blend of flavours and is delicious. So many curry houses use the same sauce for everything... none of that at The Standard. Such a joy!

A favourite when we were students in the early 1980s, this was a nostalgic trip back and did not disappoint; the food was excellent (a small but interesting menu, the onion bhajis were superb, the beer list chosen with care), the ambience cosy and the owner welcoming, friendly and helpful. Even on a Sunday in 0th week there was a steady flow of patrons both eating in and getting takeaways, so its obviously still a local favourite and is perfectly placed opposite the Phoenix Picturehouse. Long may it continue!

Consistently sucking up to the indignious locals and forgetting we notice all the behaviours of the new female server. Treating delivery riders with absolute contemp and ignoring the fact that the order is the restaurants own customer.I have had a word with a group or regulars and we will no longer tip that individual and not engage with formalities.Why is it that when we are a guest in another's establishment we all use decorum yet this individual would not attempt the display of comtempt in her mother land for fear of been told the truth with possible manual correction. Bloody millennial.We have to respect other cultures and foreign workers yet why can they pick and choose who they treat with contempt. Very bad advert for the owner.

Hands down the best Indian food in Oxford, and honestly some of the best I've had in England. They've got some unique and interesting dishes that go beyond "standard" fare and lots of great veggie dishes. And the quality of the ingredients is glaringly obvious especially when compared to other restaurants. Just absolutely top notch food that feels good to eat. Can't recommend enough.

Excellent indian food. One of the very best I have ever had. I really recommend the potatoes dish, the chicken tikka. The naans are soft and the mango lassi is absolutely delicious! Really nothing to complain about!

Excellent experience. The food was brilliant and the service was attentive. A nice selection of craft ales if you're into that too.The menu is shorter than your usual Indian restaurant but it's full of well curated choices. The Nihari was delicious, meat that was tender and fell off the bone, well spiced, and soft chickpeas. A different type of Nihari than my mum makes but it was nice to try something different that was very well executed. The specials are all worth trying if you want something you've not had before and you will not be disappointed.

Consistently the best South Asian food in Oxford. We are one of many sets of regulars that we know, which given the choice in Oxford says a lot. It’s a family run restaurant and we are always welcomed like old friends. The recent refresh of the menu over lockdown has been especially welcome.

The stand out Indian in Oxford.Superb, authentic Indian cuisine. Wonderful mix of dishes from the Indian staples, to their own unique house specials. Everything down to the breads made with passion, every dish stands out.Whether you’re a visitor or a local, make sure to put the standard at the top of your bucket list.

Non-conspicuous venue and limited parking. Spicy and curry food and service are good. Customers get reasonable value for money.
