Tong San in Oxford

We arrived for lunch at 12.00. Not busy, we were seated promptly. We soon ordered our cocktails and food. The ordering of food could be overwhelming, so we left it to the chef and ordered two 'Office Worker Tiffin boxes' meals. We each received a selection of four dishes. Except for the rice, the contents of the Tiffin Boxes was different for us. So of course we shared the dishes.The cocktails were excellent. The food was excellent. Don't think of British Indian curry house dishes, think of lovely spiced flavoursome dishes.We had desert of ice-cream to finish.One small complaint, the food arrived too soon after the cocktails.

Interior ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️They are famous for their edgy swing focused Indian inspired interiors and they whole place was just a relaxing retreat away from the chaos of Oxford City centre.Service ⭐️ ⭐️So it wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. They sat us down with menus but no nice comment like "enjoy your meal" and then water arrived without us asking (nice touch) but was just slapped down on the table and walked off.Food orders taken and explained it arrives in sections. The food did arrive as expected and as people passed they reached over to take empty starter plates, again very little interaction.Overall the service was perfectly functional but it just completely lacked human interaction.Food ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️There was nothing I wouldn't get again, it was all brilliant. We got:Yoghurt Chat bombs - these were amazing but very delicate. 9/10Ruby Wrap - great eat, perfect starter or snack - 8/10Kissed Fries - more like a side dish but very nice with the masala sauce - 8/10Several Dahls & potato curry - all good but not punchy enough for me 7/10House chicken curry - best curry ever! Creamy but not sickly - 10/10Butter Chicken - classics are classics for a reason - 9/10Prawn Curry - so many prawns but also a touch too many peas - 8.5/10Rice and Roti - standard sides, do what they need to - 6/10Price ⭐️⭐️⭐️If you share food and order wisely it isn't ridiculous. I think we spent around £100 for 5 people.12.5% service charge is an absolute joke when they are so transactional. I would prefer to give the £1 charity donation to the team and the 12.5% to charity!!Overall ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️(⭐️)4.5 stars is a strong result. I had high hopes for this after seeing so many people go. I will definitely be back, I think next time I will try the fish curry and get more Roti and less veg dishes.

Very unique and vibrant place. No doubt about that. Certainly very instagram-able. Staff and service were faultless.Started with a selection of starters such as the sticky wings, chaat bombs, gunpowder chicken which were all great 👍🏾 Then we moved onto a meat Tiffin which was chefs choice. The lamb keema was the only curry to taste decent. The daal was swimming in water, the masala for the garlic chicken was undercooked so lacked taste. Too much fresh ginger on all three curries. Puri’s were hard and dry. We ordered raitha and got sweet yogurt ! And lastly the masala chai wasn’t authentically cooked rather just used a spiced tea bag. Disappointed experience, especially as we were big fans of Mowgli’s.

Absolutely beautiful food.The culinary highlight of our weekend trip to Oxford.We had an amazing experience at Mowgli.Every stage of the experience was great.All staff were extremely kind and helpful at all time and were happy to assist you with anything. Excellent customer service.Food… all of our dishes had their own unique taste. So many flavours! So delicious!A pity there are only 5 stars available.The explosion of flavours, the atmosphere and the service, and the prices weren't outrageous.

Service was fantastic, really friendly and professional. The venue is stunning, they've really perfected their image and it was spotlessly clean. I can't get over how good the yoghurt chat bombs were, I can't wait to get the Mowgli cook book and to try making them at home. The wings were perfectly cooked but a touch on the sweet side for me, this didn't stop me demolishing the entire plate though. The lamb curry and the rhubarb and lentil daal were superb along side one of the best rotis I've ever had. Can't wait to come back soon to try everything else on the menu. Top marks.

Absolutely Gorgeous experience from beginning to end. We were lucky enough to get a table for 5 people at around 3pm but would advise pre-booking. I would say Yoghurt Chat Bombs and Bhel Puri are a must for a starter or include in main meal. Mowgli Paneer is awesome as is Goan Fish Curry, House Chicken Curry and Gunpowder Chicken. The Puri’s were absolutely gorgeous and Roti/Rice were also delicious.So many amazing flavours in the dishes and we were delighted to receive them 2 or 3 at a time. The waiting staff are really helpful, patient and hard-working. Alcoholic drinks are not overly expensive either, £6.95 for a large Sauvignon and £4.20 for a bottled beer.Love that they donate £1 to the Mowgli Trust but if you’re tight you can opt out. Also didn’t mind that 12.5% discretionary service charge is added, it’s well-earned.Portion wise, I think it’s perfect and has been both times we’ve been. A faultless experience in every way, well done to the team.

Everything we tried was delicious! Incredible flavours and a real variety! Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Also has a lovely cocktail menu and. I would definitely recommend here, it seems quite popular so i would advise to make a reservation to avoid missing out.

A fantastic contemporary take on Indian street food! Everything we ordered was packed full of flavour. The yoghurt chaat bombs, in particular, are fantastic! The lamb chops were cooked to absolute perfection, extremely tender.The decor is fantastic and the music choices cater for all sorts.

Great decoration! And cocktails!Super friendly staff!Book before going because it gets full fast.Definitely order the butter chicken with some rice or roti bread.For the dessert the brownie was delicious!

I didn’t have high hopes before coming, yet was still underwhelmed by the food.The Rose Lassi was good but slightly thick and the Puri was nice however the mains (Paneer, Tangles Greens, Lamb chops) were forgettable at best.As my friend remarked‘It’s been a long time since I was disappointed with a meal’.
