Food was absolutely delectable – tasty, non-greasy and presented beautifully. It was my first time trying a dessert bao bun, and I may have to try replicating it at home 😄 However, the highlights for me were the comforting floral décor and cocktails. It's arguably pricey, but you certainly get what you pay for: locally sourced, high-quality dishes.

We found this place by chance. My friend and I went to Portsmouth for a weekend. We didn't want to eat at one one the chain restaurants so Forty-6 was a really lucky find. The restaurant is cosy and the decor is tasteful. The staff friendly, they know the menu and offer advice when asked. The were also patient with us as we hesitated and tried wines until we found one we liked. The food presentation was good abd tasted lovely.Well priced restaurant. We would recommend a visit.

They squeezed us in without a booking, which was nice... And the staff were friendly and courteous. The disappointment came with the food. Was quite excited by the menu, expecting fairly high end. As we'd planned on Meat and Barrel round the corner (which was full) I went for a burger. For starters, it took a loooong time to come. Upon delivery all looked alright. The chips were ok, but not particularly crispy, some quite undercooked and zero seasoning. I think they were parmesan and truffle, which was subtle, but needed some salt. None on the table or provided either.Burger wise, I ditched the bun as it was stale. I'm not sure why any self-respecting chef still adds a big wet lettuce leaf and tomato into any burger, they don't need it. The cheese and bacon was ok, but the meat was again SO underseasoned. Zero flavour in itself, not good. It was also overcooked and really dry, so it just crumbled.Salad wise, no thought, just a bit wet pile drenched in arbitrary dressing.Maybe it's more a cocktails spot? Dunno, but pitching as higher end food ... It isn't. Shame.

Had to change review below to 3* from 5* as have realised after checking recently that 2 out of 3 of our party were well over charged. From what can fathom looks like we paid at least twice for drinks. On further reflection the bill for the food seems extreme too. Maybe we should of have been more aware at the time, however in our defence would expect to be charged correctly. It's a shame but for this reason will not be visiting again.June 2021 5* - Little pricey but apart from that absolutely amazing. Best roast dinner ever and caters to individual needs. Customer service impeccable.

Booked Restaurantforty6 for my birthday, all of the staff were helpful, funny and charming. The cocktails were delicious. We ordered most of the starters to share and everything was incredible! Presented beautifully and insane flavours! Really enjoyed our night and can't wait to come back to this very stylish yet non pretentious restaurant! Thank you for a great night!
