Never been before thought we try something new, the place had a good atmosphere and felt very comfortable. Food service was excellent 👍 would come again as it's the only one close to where we live nearly 59miles away .

Delicious food, lovely ambience and good service. Desserts pricy for what you get. Only problem... we called in and were asked if we had a booking. We didn't and were told they were fully booked although clearly they weren't given number of empty tables. Went outside and used the app to book so we could go back in! Was this really necessary?

Café Rouge is my favourite French restaurant in Portsmouth. Staffs are friendly and welcoming no matter how busy their store gets.It was a hectic saturday night when we dined here but we were seated quickly. Ordering food was brief as well but it was the waiting time for the mains to arrive that took the longest. I ordered my usual elderflower cocktail and my fiancée had a glass of red wine. For starters, we ordered fried calamari but the waiter told us that because we have a gourmet society membership, we could have 2 for 1 for starters so we also ordered the king prawns. The servings were very generous, we actually felt full after finishing them.Few minutes later, the mains have arrived. My fiancée ordered the steak cooked well done but in reality some parts were medium rare. She had it with fried sweet potato which were impressively not oily at all. As for mine, I had a pot of beef bourguignon -- it was delicious! The beef was melt-in-your-mouth and the veggies were not overcooked. It was very tasty.Upon paying, I had to remind the staff that we have a gourmet society membership because the bill they gave us did not include the discount we were supposed to have. But it was understandable because like what I siad earlier, the place was busy. As for the 2-for-1 starters, it was not true. We paid in full for the both of the starters that we ordered.PS. They have a clean toilet which is a plus ✔

Good food , forgot about the deserts until we asked and for the price they charge would it really hurt to turn the heating up.

Friendly quick service with polite staff. Food was great and would highly recommend. My only constructive comment is the the lack of 'how is everything' check ins between courses and we had to find a waiter to ask for the bill. Otherwise it would would great meal.

It was amazing we managed to get a table outside! Perfect day and weather for outside dining under the shade of trees. Gorgeous location! Staff friendly. There's this massive hand sanitizer dispenser outside the restaurant as well! The steak was very tasty and perfect because we were so hungry! We even came back a couple days later for coffee as still lovely outside seating available. Good coffee and beautiful creme brûlée!!! Perfect place for a relaxing cup of coffee and dessert! Also noticed how the staff kept a polite distance from customers even if restrictions have been lifted. Very considerate and much appreciated!

We had a buyagift voucher for a 3 course meal and a glass of bubbly. The food was delicious and the portion sizes were generous (in fact, my starter came in the same sized dish as my main). For a quiet Sunday evening, however, the staff forgot to bring us out the dessert we had ordered at the beginning, and so we settled the bill and left, not wanting to bother them as it was clear they were busy tidying away for the night.
