Highland Fling in Portsmouth

Have not ordered from here for a few years but decided to try it again as it was a bank holiday and not many Chinese take aways were open. Ordered on the Uber eats app so paid over £5 for delivery. Delivery took about 45 mins. Our quarter of aromatic duck was mediocre. The chicken chowmein didn't have much chicken it, the sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style was nice. However we also ordered BBQ ribs and upon opening found satay chicken. Even though it was ordered through Uber we had to contact the store with any issues. They offered to deliver the ribs and swap them for the satay - not sure who they would then have given them to! However I asked for a refund as I didn't want half my dinner 45 minutes later which she agreed. Some 30 minutes later, just as we had finished eating there was a knock at the door which was the delivery driver with the ribs but she wouldn't give to us as my husband had eaten a couple of the satay and she said they had to be swapped. So food was mediocre at best and customer service was rubbish.

Awful food, small portions was always mine and my wife's favourite Chinese with previous owners, either bring them back or shut them down because the food was discusting, will never buy here again.

First time ordered from here since the new owners have taken over .This has been my favourite Chinese shop for the last 20yrs. But sadly no more. Standards have totally skydived

Update: I haven’t been back once, mainly due to abysmal hygiene standards. Think people wiping their noses with their fingers then wrapping your meal. Nice.I ordered chicken balls, sauce and chips. On returning home: bright pink chicken. Didn't fancy being poisoned and it looked disgusting so I had to ditch it. Chip butties for dinner. Disappointed. Wrote it off as a one-off.Another time: Ordered same meal, chicken balls and chips. Got home, discovered I only had (lukewarm) chips, no chicken. Disappointed again. Phoned to complain, politely as possible. I received a polite apology but still unhappy. Chip butties for dinner, again.All my 5-10 visits before that: Same meal (my Friday favourite), all OK.Hesitant to go back.

I am very disappointed after being a loyal customer to the previous owners to then came and see that the foods standard has severely declined I will not be coming back here that is way I rate this Chinese so low.

It was a great fish and chip shop.....until recently when in October 2021, new owners decided the fish must go and they have been thrown back in the sea......the fish sign blanked out over the shop signage but you can still buy chips. More fool them. They will lose much custom. There are plenty of Chinese food places near by and actually better quality but fish is less easy to get. So you have lost my custom of many years to the Cod Squad in Albert Road, and so goes all the others things I would have purchased from you at the same time if you had continued to offer fish. We families don't just buy one meal but many at the same time so you lose out.
