Absolutely disgusting, food was late and cold and tasted horrible, they forgot the rice as the icing on the cake. Minus 5 stars.

Madras was disgusting and just a container full of oil, the rice was all different colours and was ment to be coconut rice and there was other various problems with it. However when I went to contact the store they ignored what I said I’m extremely disappointed, we have been here before and it’s never been this bad.

I highly recommend no one orders from this place! Boiled egg for egg fried rice haha. 1 stale poppadom. Lamb rogan josh was beyond tomatie. Only thing we enjoyed more was the can of coke. And really I wouldn't even give it a 1*

I would never ever go back to this takeaway. Didn’t get our food until 2 hours after we ordered, we had to phone them twice to find out what was going on. The first time we were told our order hadn’t even gone through! No apologies. When it arrived it was lukewarm. Disgusting. I wouldn’t recommend at all!

Food was beautiful and arrived before expected, one of the best Chicken Tikka Madras' in Pompey.LETDOWN HOWEVER... received substandard service, as we ordered 2 portions of popadoms (paying £1.20) and received only one completely crumbled one. This meant we paid £1.20 for one broken poppadom, which is just a joke. As we ordered late, I think we were given what was left without much thought or care.Called the restaurant but as it was late, they said they were closed and to put our issue in the notes when ordering again and they "will sort us out something". I hope this is true and not just a way to brush the issue off. No apology was even given.I'm aware it isnt much money, but it is the principle. You should at least get what you pay for.

I have now been to this place twice, and I have ordered from many other Indian restaurants in Portsmouth. This has to be the best I've found! The Chicken Tikka Masala is probably the best food we have ever eaten! I will continue to order from here for there great service and food! Thank you so much!

We have been a long serving customer but today will be the last time. They sent out a raw chicken dish and when we called them up they were very rude and dismissive. I couldn't believe the poor level of customer service we recieved. We were only going to ask for a refund on that one dish but they would have none of it and only offered a discount next time. there wont be a next time, we will go else where from now on.

Enjoyed our meal here. Service was good. May have been due to the fact that we were one of two tables. The starters were delicious. The mains were a little bland and just very sweet. The tikka should have been at least a little spicey. But the peshwari naan was delectable. We were completely stuffed. Seemed a little pricey. But we got complimentary Bailey's at the end. So can't complain.

To behonest this is not my first time at the rodeo. I have had the pleasure of eating at the India Gate before. But as an update on my previous review I would like to assess if it is still the best Indian restaurant in portsmouth.Ratings are as follows.Atmosphere: 8/10There are not really any beautiful views outside of the windows however the decor makes up for this with soft lighting, and flawless tableware. One suggestion I would have for this restaurant is that they adjust the music a little to give it more of an Indian feel because I maybe wrong but if I go to a Indian I want to feel like I am in India even a little bit. Also I could barely hear the music at all as it needed to be a little louder. Apart from these notes it is a great little place with a bar alsoFood and Drink: 8In all honesty I could not really rate the food I had any higher as it was superb. I had poppadoms with chutney and such (as seen in the photo) the condiments were great and the poppadoms still warm. For my main I chose the Lamb shatkora and trust me when I say this that if you love lamb then go for it as the Lamb is tender and has just the right amount of fat. With the sour spiciness of this curry I complimented it with the mushroom rice which was not greasy at all. The peshwari naan that I had was also delightful and not too overpowering. Lamb Shatkora + Mushroom rice + Peshwari = excellent combination. The drink I started off with however distracted me. I asked for a ruby port (Cockburns) and when I received it I was a bit disappointed to see ice in the glass. It might only be a little thing but if you have a bar then there is a great need to know that if you serve port you don't add ice as watered down port isn't very pleasant. That is the reason why the score is not a 10 for food and drink. Therefore if you go hear explain how you want your drink served.Service:8/10Nothing really to complain about except for the time it took from poppadoms to main meal. It was a good 45 minutes.Another point was overhearing the staff member saying "You can't please some people"Not a massive issue but if I can remember it then it takes away from my remembrance of the nightOverall 8/10If they can sort the music and the bar out for next time then i will be more than happy to review again in the future because everything else was great. I really wanted to rate this place higher
