Meat & Barrel in Portsmouth

First time visiting this place. Mid-week, not overly busy. Staff were pretty rude. Everything seemed to be a chore. Questions about the menu were met with rolled eyes and blunt responses. Couldn’t get a simple drink order right but we daren’t bring that to their attention and just drank them. Food was alright, nothing to rave about.Asked the long haired male member of staff for a takeaway box for food we couldn’t finish. He just looked at us in disgust and returned to shove the box at us and go back to a table of what appeared to be his mates to continue their top bants.Basic customer service/manners seem to be absent here. I’d take a walk up the road.. plenty of other decent places to go.

Got seated to a table and drinks order taken at our request as no one seemed to notice that we had been seated. Drinks arrived quite promptly were placed on the table by a member of staff without any words. Waited 20 minutes no one came to take our food order so requested to place one. Waited over an hour for the food to be delivered to the table which was cold. No one asked if food was ok. Obviously after an hour and a half we were hungry so we ate half the meal. asked for the bill male waiter slaps it down on the table and walked off. We will not be visiting again. Merchant house is definitely a better option.

Nice vibe and great potential... sadly disappointing. Burger was dry and ribs were burnt and dry. Waiter was lovely but check back would have saved the visit. Sadly will have to try different burger place next time.

Good food, nice burgers and a big hearty boozy milkshake. We went on a weekday afternoon and it wasn't crowded at all, with lots of lovely light streaming into the building. Friendly and attentive staff with good music choices. Relaxed fun vibe.

This place used to be banging. Now it's trash. Don't bother - especially the vegan options. Last time the burgers came out cold, and the seitan chicken wings are like eating bicycle tyres. My friend asked whether the Mac & Cheese was any good. Our server replied "edible". Says it all really. Staff are poorly presented and will happily sit at the bar scrolling on their phones for a good ten mins while you wave to get their attention. Abandon all hope.

These burgers are amazing!! Full of flavour and fully customisable, great service, good range of drinks. Will 100% be returning one the kitchen refurb is complete.

Not only were the staff very approachable and friendly but the food was utterly delicious and presented amazingly, despite being busy the atmosphere was great and the location ( central to southsea ) really added to the whole experierience would 100 percent reccomend

Tuesday is burger night! I was expecting just a normal average burger for the price... Nope! It was amazing, really tasty burgers and loaded fries. Amazing beers too. Good place to catch up with friends on a weekday as it's not too busy. Highly recommend.

What a find!Amazing food and craft beer what more can you ask for.The BBQ Dirty fries were sensational I could eat them all day.The staff are really on the ball and make you feel very welcome.I will be back. 👍
