Red Lion Hotel in Portsmouth

Having arrived late in the afternoon, the staff very friendly courtious and well mannered.We ordered 2 pizza, from the on site pizzerie and what a delight, and at good pricese.We defo will be back

Great service, lovely mixed grill although the peas were a little dry, beautiful chips, very polite bar staff, would be a brilliant place to stop for afternoon lunch with the kids or a night out with your partner.

Great place to eat! Friendly staff great menu and prices! Great location parking available.

Further to my first post. I should have known better when at check in the person who checked us in said breakfast was between 8am and 10am. We said we hadn't ordered breakfast we had room only. He said we had said for breakfast also. We thought that since we had paid that we would eat. Mistake.. first off there was no orange juice(I'm a pub???) I ordered a small breakfast and my partner ordered eggs Benedict. After a few minutes the waitress came back and said there is no paprika. My partner was ok with that. Another few minutes went past and she came back saying there was no hollandaise sauce. My partner then said she would have poached eggs on toast. The waitress said that the chef had not turned up and that the manager could not cook poached eggs. My partner settled for scrambled eggs on toast.The breakfasts came out and my breakfast was not what it said on the menu. Menu said a large flat mushroom, I got half a mushroom. I didn't get the white pudding and I didn't get the hash brown(there was no explanation of anything missing) the fried egg was very hard and the sausage was very dry and looked like it had been sat around for ages. All in all I give them 1 out of 10 for at least making an effort

Ordered from Uber Eats, any extras that we paid for weren’t included. They handed our delivery to the wrong driver so our driver had to wait at the pub to receive it so by the time it had arrived it was quite cold. Pizza was very tasty but the burger we ordered didn’t have the extra patty we paid for, stuff we asked to be removed wasn’t removed and the upgraded fries we paid for weren’t included. When we called about a refund for the stuff they missed we were directed to claim it through Uber eats but it’s so overly complicated.

The location of the hotel is conveniently central to the town, with free on-site parking. The staff are very cheerful, pleasant and very helpful. The room was clean with all the normal accoutrements, the bed was very comfortable and the shower was excellent. Although the pub itself is a little run down, there is a homely atmosphere and the food is really good.

We made a late booking as our ship was delayed in Portsmouth. We managed to arrive just before the booking in time. What a very warm welcome We received. The staff were very attentive and my husband and myself feel at home. We hade fish & chips with mushy peas and tartan sauce 😋. The portion was large and well cooked, 2 clean plates. The guienss was vell kept and pured to perfection, it even had a little heart 💕 on.The room was spotlessly clean with a TV and tea making facilities, a very good size bathroom with fluffy white towels. We had a good night's sleep.Breakfast was something else....we were asked by the lady on Breakfast duties would we like the hearty Breakfast. Wow when it arrived with a choice of fresh juices, 2 fried eggs 🍳 2 bacon 🥓 2 sausage fresh tomatoes 🍅 beans 😋 buttered mushrooms 🍄 white pudding 🍮 and toast. All washed down with a good mug of coffee ☕ 😋Well done to everyone at the Red Lion especially Martell the host for the evening and morning breakfast. Would most definitely recommend this place and hopefully will return soon.

Came here for off chance dinner, ordered a burger and chips nothing special..... Honestly the best burger over had in years better than flame grilled burger king it was delicious. The staff were absolutely lovely especially the curly haired lady couldn't have done enough , best food had in ages and been disappointed lots lately massively recommendDefinitely coming again

Booked a table for a 'festive lunch' but it took a bit of a hint to the staff who hadn't worked that out. Other than that, the staff were courteous and helpful. The menu was limited for vegetarian fayre but that is what was ordered including a starter and pudding and turned out to be a very nice meal indeed. The place wasn't crowded or overly noisy just after lunchtime and there was a good atmosphere. All in all, a pleasant afternoon, good food and good service.

Friendly welcome, good food and a very comfortable room. What else do you need after arriving late on the ferry? Michael was the perfect host and made these two weary travellers very happy. We'll be back.
